Advantages: classic fun

Disadvantages: you can't play it for more than about 20 minutes at a time without it driving you crazy

- Is it a woman?
- Yes.
- Is she wearing a beret?
- Um...yes. Damn.
- Ha! It's Maria! Hahahahahaha!!!

This is how I remember Guess Who? from my childhood. Somehow I always got Maria who was the easiest character on the board to guess. To be fair in the edition we had there were only five women altogether and the characters were all white, I guess it's changed pretty drastically since then and picking Maria is not such a handicap. Hmph.

The concept of Guess Who? is very simple. Each player (it's a 2-player game only) has a board with flip-down pictures of faces. Each player then chooses a card, and they ask each other yes-no questions to guess their opponent's card by a process of elimination. Ouch, that sounded a lot more complex than it is. Pre-schoolers could probably manage to play this - that's not to say that it's any less fun when you're in your twenties...although it doesn't have the edge-of-seat thrill of something like Buckaroo. I think their target age group for this game is probably something like 6-12 (they were the six years I devoted to it anyhow without the novelty wearing off).

I have no idea hoe much this game would set you back these days, although my suspicions are in the region of £10-15. It probably seems a bit primitive to kids today too, and rather strenuous (the effort of FLIPPING A CARD DOWN), but as the elderly always say, it's an oldie but a goodie.
