Advantages: Gets everyone involved, Games are relatively short unless you are all experts

Disadvantages: It can get quite loud as with the crash of the tower falls. Watch out for furniture damage!

I love board games and usually spend hours playing them over holiday periods especially Christmas. However, when I unwrapped JENGA I was a bit unsure what to make of it as all that was in the box was lots of rectangular wooden blocks.

How do you play it?

To start a game the wooden blocks are placed in rows of three on top of each other to form a tower. Each row is also placed at right angles to the row below.

Once the tower is complete the game begins and you take it in turns to remove a block and place it on of the tower forming new rows of three as you go up. This may sound easy but to make it more difficult you are only allowed to use one hand. If you are playing with more than two people there are no real winners just a loser who knocks the tower over to the roar of JENGA!

What I love about this game.

Maybe I am just a competitive person but I love the drama of this game. There is something about seeing people struggle to push the blocks out, watch there faces change as the tower wobbles or rotates slightly and then there is the gasp as you see the tower pass the point of no return and topple to the ground. Then there is the fact everyone else always see to shout JENGA with such relief, glad in the fact that it was them that cause it to fall.

Why will you love it?

This is one of those games that will get everyone in all age groups involved. It requires a bit of resolve a steady hand maybe a little bit of structural know how. It is perfect for parties as it can be played whilst other stuff is going on and only really requires concentration when it is your turn. It is also fun trying to make people laugh whilst they are in the middle of pull out a block which seems to be stuck half way in.

What should I watch out for?

One word of warning when playing this game is that there maybe a bit of shouting as the tower falls with the inevitable crash as it hit the ground. Therefore, make sure everyone in the room is aware that it may get loud. Also I wouldn't play this game on your Mums best coffee table as the falling blocks can cause damage (I speak from experience).

Should I Buy It?

Most definitely, Yes! Everyone should have access to some JENGA.
It is a simple game for the calm steady hand that is fun for everybody.
