Advantages: The anticipation!!

Disadvantages: Takes a while to set up

Oh the hours of fun I used to have with this one! My mum recently had a clear out of her loft so I got to relive the memories before trying to sell it on Ebay for her.

The game consists of a plastic tube with a UFO style top. In this little contraption is lots of little holes. In the box you are also provided with lots of coloured sticks that are made of plastic and are thin and long. The idea is that you slot these sticks in the holes until the end is sticking out of the other side. Finally you drop in lots of marbles which are also provided and the game can begin.

The idea of the game is to take it in turns to pull one of the sticks out of the side. If a marble falls then you are out!

This game gets your heart rate going and the anticipation that you feel as you slowly take a stick out is amazing. You find yourself pulling a stick but then going back on it because you can feel a marble about to go. When we were little one player would spend ages pulling at a stick then deciding not to go with it so we bought in the rule of whatever stick your fingers touched then you had to go through with it. This made the game more exciting and it didn't go on forever.

The sticks are very bendy but I remember that some of ours got wrecked because I had a brother who liked to chew things so before you know it the ends of each one were wrecked.

Obviously the game is great but the fact that you get a whole bunch of marbles with it means that you can find a skirting board and play the 'real' marbles which is also great fun.

My only criticism with this game is the fact that it takes ages to set up. The plastic casing was easy but the sticks take forever to thread through purely because, you'd get it through one hole but it was almost impossible to find the other end and push it through a hole. This gets far worse when the holes are few and far between. Nine times out of ten we'd begin setting up the game and then give up before playing a game of 'Marbles'.

This is a great family fun game that is suitable for anyone over four years old.

Summary: A great game
