Advantages: Fun concept

Disadvantages: Limited play potential, pieces easily lost

I have found this game fun to play, both as a child and occasionally still now. However after two or three games you are bored of it, and as each game only lasts a few minutes, it does not have a great deal of playability.

The game takes time and patience to set up as you have to poke lots of sticks through the bowl in the centre, then pour marbles into the top. If any marbles fall down to the bottom then you have to rearrange sticks until they stay up. Players then take it in turns to remove a stick and if any marbles fall down into your base that is bad. The winner is the one with the fewest marbles once they have all fallen down.

The marbles and sticks are easily lost and once you get down to a certain number the game isn't playable any more. You could use wooden skewers instead of the sticks once you run them down.

Kerplunk is often found in charity shops, but make sure you check how many sticks and marbles are left; there should be a lot of each. The main plastic section is hard to break but you might have to buy two second hand sets before you have enough sticks and marbles. This will still be lots cheaper than buying it new.

Summary: Not enough playability to justify buying it new
