Advantages: Interesting game, improves kids' maths skills

Disadvantages: Some kids might find it frustrating

If you have somehow managed to go through your life without ever being challenged to a game of Monopoly (you poor thing!) basically the game revolves around property management. You go around the board, and are able to buy any property your counter lands up on. When other people then land on that square, you can then charge them rent - an amount that can increase depending on whether the person who "owns" it has purchased houses or hotels.

I loved this game as a kid, but then I was the sort of child who was obsessed by maths. I can see younger children, or children who aren't so good at mental arithmetic struggling with it, or finding it an exercise in frustration as working out the rent can get reasonably complex. I probably wouldn't recommend it for under tens (although maybe for exceptionally bright eight year olds?) but with gentle help and guidance, there's no reason why this shouldn't IMPROVE a kid's maths skills.

You can pick it up for £10 - a bargain for the amount of play you should get out of it!

Summary: Loved it as a kid, love it as an adult
