Advantages: Good fun and lasts a while
Disadvantages: Can become dull when you KNOW you are going to lose
GAME PLAY SUMMARY
Players compete to gain money through the buying, renting, and trading of properties as they take turns moving around the board. If they land on a property, they have enough money and nobody else owns it, they can buy it. Once they buy a row of street in the same colour, they can build houses and once they have 4 houses, they can build a hotel. As other players land on properties that you own, they must pay you rent, depending on whether you own just one property, all properties in that colour, houses or a hotel. The object of the game is to bankrupt the other players.
INTERESTING FACT.
According to Wikipedia, 'the game is named after the economic concept of monopoly, the domination of a market by a single entity.' I am not deep enough to have realised that but now I've read it, it makes perfect sense. Teaches you how to be a ruthless economic tycoon!
BEST BIT
Getting a street and putting up houses and hotels. Makes you feel like a proper little property tycoon!
WORST BIT
Sorting out the bank and keeping control of who owes what, when people start borrowing out of desperation.
QUALITY
Good strong pieces that last. The money is very thin but if you are like me, you don't ever get to hold much of it anyway!! We've had our board since I was a tiny kid and I'm 28 and it is still going strong!
OVERALL
I have mixed feelings about monopoly. There is no denying it is brilliant fun, clever, nostalgic and entertaining. But I have heard of so many people having big arguments over it. I think perhaps it takes too long to finish a game and so people become fed up and impatient. Also, way way way before you lose, it becomes so obvious that you are going to that it takes the fun out of playing (well maybe just for those of us who can't stand to lose!)
Summary: Great game that stands the test of time.
