One of my preferred evening pursuits, this game has lasted through the years and remains good family fun. I particularly like the idea of earning money and buying houses, as in real life this seems much harder to do at the moment, so why not pretend you're doing it!

The Game:

The idea is to go round the board and buy London based properties. The properties are named after famous London streets or train stations. Players collect rent from other players who land on their properties. The idea is to acquire enough property to bankrupt the other players.

The Board:

Set out in colour, easy to navigate and get the feel of straight away. You use little playing pieces to move around, like a hat, dog or sportscar.

Lucky dips:

There are 'Chance' and 'Community Chest' cards, this is basically like a lucky dip section, where players get bonuses like 'win £10 from the player on your left.' It is a pleasant little sideline to buying properties.

Game length:

A game can take an hour or even several, depending on the state of play and who is landing on and buying what properties.

Good points:

Rewarding if you win and get the properties you want

Watching people get sent to jail is hilarious, especially if it happens over and over

Collecting money every time you pass go...brilliant!

Bad points:

If you get off to a slow start, some players might whizz round and buy everything up, leaving you with slim picking

The game can go on for a while

People often have their 'own rules' which leads to arguments or even fights.

The paper money tears easily

Nobody EVER wants Old Kent Road!


Overall:

More fun than Snakes and Ladders, loads of people can play, good value game too!
