Advantages: Great fun

Disadvantages: Can take forever to complete a game

There can't possibly be anyone who hasn't played a game of Monopoly at some point during their lives. Like everything else nowadays its been up-dated, modernised, turned into a computer game and limited edition versions have also been brought out to take advantage of the market such is Monopolys popularity.

But in my opinion you just can't beat the original game of Monopoly which was first released in 1934 would you believe.

HOW TO PLAY
The object of the game is to basically bankrupt your opposing players. The game is best played with between 4-6 players or else it can be a very long game!!.

Each player picks a counter (dog, iron, boat, wheelbarrow etc) and then each player is given a certain amount of 'Monopoly' money to start the game with. Then each player throws the two dice with the player with the highest number thrown from the two dice is the one to go first.

You take it in turns to throw the two dice and move around the board accordingly. The idea of the game is to buy properties as you move around the board. You can only buy a property if you land on it. You use your Monopoly money to buy this and the amounts that the properties are to be brought for can be found on the board.

You will notice when playing that each property is represented by a colour and the idea is that you try and buy a complete set of one colour giving you a 'Monopoly' in that colour. The further you go around the board the more expensive the properties get so you have to use your money wisely.

Trying to buy as many 'Monopolies' as possible is the name of the game and once you have a complete Monopoly in a colour you can start buying houses and hotels, meaning your opponents have to pay you more and more in rent, eventually making them bankrupt if you play the game wisely. You keep playing until all other players are bankrupt meaning you are left with all the money and all the properties on the board.

OPINION
This is a really fun family game. Probably not suitable for younger children but it could be helpful for them if they play alongside another player as they can learn to count and become familiar with the consept of money and buying.

The game can take a while to set up and can take even longer to play so make sure you have plenty of time on your hands before you start this as some games of mine have lasted over a couple of hours.

The game is available from Amazon for around £7.99 and you will definitely get your moneys worth from it! A great game that everyone loves to play though it is open to cheating so watch your opponents carefully - especially the person who has to play banker!!!

A great game for adults and children so as I said the main drawback for me on this game is the time taken to play a complete game. We have found ourselves giving up after an hour or so as it can get a bit competitive and if no-one really gets a Monopoly and you all own 'bit' properties you can find you reach a bit of a stalemate.

A great bit of fun and the game is pretty simple to play too. If you are looking for a game to enjoy together as a family then you can't beat this - but be prepared to get competitive and after a while also be prepared for boredom to set in if a conclusion to the game isn't easily reached - especially in children with short attention spans!!

Still great fun though & can provide hours of entertainment!!

Summary: Still recommend it though.

I always pick the iron, I feel at home with the iron. Wonder what that says about me ?

Can't beat the original - I bought one where you use 'credit cards' instead of the money - really ruined it for me.
