Advantages: Good to help kids understand money.

Disadvantages: Can be time consuming!

I remember Monopoly! This was the first game that I brought when I set up my own home. So now my board is a bit worn and a slightly old! It gets used quite a bit!
My hubby is now a collector of the different boards that have come out. His current collection is as follows:

A chocolate version: This is just a small board with all the pieces made out of chocolate. The idea behind this game is that the winner gets to eat all the losers tokens...but we never have played it yet...chocs are well past their sell by date now anyway!!!

Pokemon version: Are your kids crazy on the pokemons...mine are, so my hubby brought this so "they can enjoy it to"
The characters are all made out of rubber. You travel around pokemon island collecting the different pokemon characters instead of places. When you have a set, you place poke centres (houses) or poke marts (hotels). You use poke money, and chance cards and community cards are replaced with Professor Oak (chance) and Trainer Battle (community Chest).
They have some really unusual extras to this game.. If you throw doubles you get some specil "powers" which add intrest to the game.
The money amount is still the same, the general idea is still the same, but the way the game looks is slightly different! I know my eldest kids like this..
Star Wars Version: Another different version, where the game is based on the first lot of Star Wars. The pieces are made out of pertwee metal, the money is called something that I cant remember at the moment! You travel around the board all the sites are named after the places in the fillms. For hotels and houses you place starships or milllenium falcons, or you place tie fighters and x-wings. Great fun!!
You have both the "good guys" and "bad guys" reprsented on the board. Again the money amount is the same and general rules remain the same.

We are now currently awaiting the Manchester United Version.
.. Details to follow soon!!

We also have the De-luxe version travel... Same as original but on a smaller scale.. the pieces slot onto the board so they dont fall off during your journey!! Under the board is little draws where all the pieces are stored during play and also when packed away.

Cd-Rom Version (original): This is brilliant!! You can also play people over the internet.. a great way to meet other fans!! When you play this you can get a film of what is happening in the middle, although if you are playing over the internet it is best if you turn movies off, as it takes to long. This same version is also avaliable on Sony Playstation, although not quite as good as the P.C.

Cd-Rom (Star Wars): Again play on the P.C, movies include original film footage!

As you can see my family is Monopoly crazy!!!
Hope that I havn't bored you!!

I have necer been a fan of this game because of the money thing being crammed down children's necks so much.
Having said that I understand why people like it and I know that my family always plays it every xmas<I usually head for the pub at this point>.

I've been banned after one memorable game which ended with the bank running out of money and bankers drafts being issued!

We used to amalgamate three sets together with the most complicated extra rules - I wonder if those sets are still up in the loft? ;-)
