Many Hours Of Fun For The Whole Family
Member Name: Autumnrose
Advantages: Great family time, Easy to play
Disadvantages: Games can run long
I would have to say that one of the earliest memories I have of board games would have to be my memories of Monopoly. I can remember sitting around watching my cousins play and always being told I was to young. By the time I was finally allowed to play I had watched so many games I already knew how to play.
A few years ago 2 to be exact I bought this game for my own game collection. I try to have family game night at least once a month sadly however it does not always work out that way. Even though we do not play it that often it has become a household favorite. My daughter just loves that she can beat us in this game. Not that it happens very often but it does happen from time to time.
As I said before I bought my game about 2 years ago and really cant remember how much I paid for it. I am sure that I got a killer deal as I never buy anything that's not on special. I would have to say that all in all the game has been played about 15 times. We have used the money for other homemade games but always put it right back. The board after 2 years still looks as if its brand new and the money still fits nicely in its area's. Sometimes I have used games that the money will not fit in the storage area and is a mess any time you want to play it. Those are just the games that have been loved many times over the years.
My game is the basic edition with nothing extra. I am sure I bought this version as it was the cheapest of what ever the store had to offer. As I look at my game I see that there are a few more player pieces than there were when I was a kid playing. I had never looked at it as I am always the dog and its pulled out for me long before we ever start the game. There are quite a few houses and I would say about the same amount of hotels if not a few less. The houses are the basic green color and the hotels the basic red. As I said before the basic edition. No bells or whistles just good ole fashioned fun.
This game really has become one of my family's favorites my daughter wants to play it every night. I am sure we would be happy to make that happen if we could talk her into playing a shorter version of the game but alas with her and any game she figures if your not going to play it right why bother. I would have to say that the only down side to this game is the amount of time a game can truly take especially if you don't play by the rules set forth in the game.
As for rules in the game you can follow those basic rules or you can kick it up a notch. We have always thrown any money we would have paid to the bank such as taxes and what not on to free parking any one that lands on free parking takes that money. Granted it does make the game last a little longer but it sure make you feel good when you land on free parking. My husband hates to play like that but he is outnumbered and in our house the majority always wins.
I would recommend this as a great way to spend quality time with the family. Its night like that I break out the old smores maker my daughter got years ago and make some smores and play a good ole game of monopoly.
Monopoly was started in 1934 during the depression of the United States. Charles Darrow the man that created it made after playing a similar game he had played with a family known as the Todd's. He never realized just how big of a hit the game was to be as he sold all rights to Parker Brothers. How ever he is not the only one that has a claim in the creation of the game.
The very first version of the game can be traced back to 1903 and a Quaker Woman named Elizabeth Phillips. Her version of the game was made to teach the negatives of concentrating land in private monopolies. Her game "The Landlords Game" was published in 1924.
Who ever was the creator of the game I could really care less all that matters to me is that my family and I have a great time playing the game and I would have to say that we have had hours of fun with this game. One of the best games out there for the family that you don't have to be plugged in to play.
Summary: Great family fun.
