Advantages: Can be played with two or more players and great fun that the whole family can be involved in
Disadvantages: Maybe the odd arguement over what rules to play by
Monopoly has got to be the most played family board game of all time. I know that I have enjoyed playing it when I was growing up and it has been around for generations and will still be around for many more to come. IT'S A PURE CLASSIC!! The game came about in 1934 and was thought up by an american guy called Charles Darrow who took his ideas for the game to Parker Brothers executives but they rejected his ideas at first untill he went back to them and then the rest is history. *WHAT IS THE GAME* Monopoly is based on buying and selling property game, and the aim is to build up your own properties, while at the same time, try and bankrupt the other players. The game is played on a board like many games, and consists of various streets, properties (houses and hotels), utilities, four train stations, and various other domains such as go to jail, free parking and even community chest, chance where if you land on any of those you will have to turn over a card that could either get sent to another property like Mayfair, get sent to jail, win a beauty contest, pay doctors fees, pay for repairs on any houses or hotels you have placed on your properties etc....you just never know if you are gonna get a good one or a bad one. At the start of the game, each person chooses a piece to play with such as a car, dog etc that thy use to move around the board with. Each player is then given £1500 to start the game off, each player then throws one single dice the player with the highest dice throw goes first. After you have been around the board once you can then begin to buy property. As the game progresses, and you have bought properties, the aim now, is to get your properties loaded with houses or even a hotel, but you need to have a complete set before you can place houses on the, by complete set I mean all of one color. Then you can start to make some real cash when the other players land on your property. What happens is when ano
ther player lands on your property you can then claim rent money from them, the amounts of rent varies on whats streets you have and if yu have placed houses or hotels on them, complete streets (all the same color) the rent is then doubled so you can then build up your cash quicker. The idea is to own as much as you can and make the other players bankrupt and therefor win the game. It can take a while to finally finish the game and can cause good old family arguements but is a fun way to get the family around the table. Over the years, Monopoly has many versions of the game come outd, like football teams, junior monopoly, and more recently a computer version on CD-Rom.
