Advantages: easy to use, very enjoyable, for all ages
Disadvantages: takes a while to set up, lose your money quick if you're not careful, can take a long time to finish a game
Monopoly has been one of my favourite games ever since as long as i can remember. The only problem is that it's hard to find family members who have the time to play games, especially with monopoly as it can take hours for each game to finish. Monopoly is manufactured in Great Britain by John Waddington Ltd. It doesn’t even have an age range, so anyone can play which is good. I think it is easy to understand, even for small kids. Monopoly is basically a very enjoyable property trading game, so hopefully no one will get bored, depending on what everyone’s interests are! Monopoly consists of the following: 1 big board, community chest cards, chance cards, bank notes, green houses, red hotels, property cards, 2 die, pieces to move with and a set of rules for the game. The following spaces included on the board are: (in the same order) = Go, Old Kent Road, Community Chest, Whitechapel Road, Income Tax pay £200, Kings Cross Station, The Angel Islington, Chance, Euston Road, Pentonville Road, Just visiting Jail, Pall Mall, Electric Company, Whitehall, Northumberland Avenue, Marylebone Station, Bow Street, Community Chest, Marlborough Street, Vine Street, Free Parking, Strand, Chance, Fleet Street, Trafalgar Square, Fenchurch St Station, Leicester Square, Coventry Street, Water Works, Piccadilly, Go to Jail, Regent Street, Oxford Street, Community Chest, Bond Street, Liverpool St Station, Chance, Park Lane, Super Tax pay £100 and Mayfair. In the middle of the board are spaces for the community chest and chance cards. Now how many of these places have you been to in London before? You could plan a whole London Underground trip on visiting the same places as on the Monopoly board! Basically to start the game, everyone needs their fair share of money which is explained in the rules anyway. But I will tell you now, to get you excited! When I was little, I always wished that the money could be changed into rea
l money! Well, I bet everyone does!!! You choose someone to be the banker throughout the game. This basically needs to be someone is good at handling money! I mean who wants a banker who gives players the wrong change? (unless of course if you get more) If no one is good at maths, you could use a calculator, though it might make the game longer! The banker deals out the same amount of bank notes to each person - £1500 – this comes divided as follows: 2 x £500, 4 x £100, 1 x £50, 1 x £20, 2 x £10, 1 x £5, 5 x £1. All the remaining money stays in the bank (doh!) After the money is all dealt out, each player takes it in turns to throw the dice. The player with the highest total starts the game and then it goes round in an anti-clockwise way. On the first time around the board, you are not supposed to do anything even if you land on a square which says you have to. Though when i play it at home, we usually miss that out and start on the first time round. If a player gets a double number i.e. both numbers on each dice are the same - he gets another go and so on, but if he gets 3 doubles, then he has to go to jail, no matter what he's doing. The object of the game is to be the one with the most money and the most properties. At the beginning of the board, properties start off very cheap e.g. old Kent and then as you get nearer the end, the properties start to get more expensive e.g. Mayfair. If someone lands on your property, then you charge him or her rent, which is good as you get more money, but obviously not for the poor soul who lands on your square! If you have hotels or houses on your property, you charge them however much is required for the amount of hotels or houses you have. I wont go into too much detail about the rules of the game, as it is explained in the rules anyway. But what i can tell you is that Monopoly is an over-all very enjoyable game. You could also get addicted to it
, like i did, i have to admit. Though be warned - it can take hours to finish a game! I think you need some luck to play this game. Luck for not landing in jail and getting the number of dice rolls you want. You also need skill, as depending on how you manage your properties, can help you win at the end of the game. Oh and before I get, you need luck when you pick the chance and community chest cards up. Some are very rewarding and others are….non so rewarding…such as getting sent to Jail! I just hate that!!! Being on the chance, 3 spaces away from Go and getting sent back to Old Kent or even Jail (nooooooooooooooo), or you could be unluckier and get sent to someone’s property with 5 hotels on. (That usually happens to me) TIP: The more properties you buy, the more chance you have of winning!! It has worked every time for me…so far! I have also noticed that if you tend to buy the train stations, you get more money! In fact, why don’t you buy every property – then the other players have no chance!! (hehe) Also dont have too many players, as the hotels and houses start to run out and you would have to use other small objects instead! I know this as it has happened to me loads of times! (nooooooooooooo) Luckily, if you haven’t got much time to spare, there is also a short game explained in the rules. This is one which ends where the player has the highest total! I have never played the short one before, as I prefer the longer game. Thanks for reading my opinion!!! :)
