Advantages: You can laugh in someones face when you win.

Disadvantages: They can laugh in yours if you don't.

Usually i play monopoly against my older brother and 9 times out of ten i win! The reason being...i'm not greedy. I will usually let him buy most of the board up except for the browns, the light blues and the dark blues (i'm talking in colours because there is so many different boards out there). Also i try my best to get at least two of the stations and the utilities are good to have. But i avoid most of the properties. The reason for this is when he has finished buying up the board he has no money left to pay me when he lands on something i own, and he doesn't have enough dosh to buy houses or hotels. However, when you have only bought 1 or 2 sets and they are the cheapest ones the chances of you not having enough money to buy houses are small. The browns without houses on are worth a meesley £2 or£4 but that goes as high as £450 with a hotel and it didn't cost much at all.

I'm giving away all the secrets here but if you never win and you want to know why the most likely reason is because you dive in too quickly and buy too much, without thinking about what you can afford. You would think that because i win most games my brother would learn but, some men never do and his strategy doesn't change. Maybe if it did i would have to come up with a new one. The games don't last that long at all, a couple of hours if i want to give him a fair chance.

The truth though is i want to own everything but the best way to do it is to let your opponent buy it for you (wink, wink). Admittedly sometimes it is worth buying a property you don't really want just to stop your opponent from getting a full set, that always gets to them.

So think of monopoly as real life. You want something, you don't necessarily have to be the one to buy, also your money skills in monopoly might reflect how sensible or whimsical you are with your real money. Need any tips write a comment and i'll reply.

I got this for Christmas, and I've lost every time I've played so far... I reckon the key is getting the pinks and oranges to get everyone skint when they come out of jail!

Good Tactics. My Dad, who claims to be the 'Monopoly King' claims that the Reds & The Dark Greens hold the secret. I reckon your more right though by going for those cheapy Browns.

You can get Hotels up before the rest of your opponents have even reached Free Parking!
