Advantages: Good Family Game, The Beeper
Disadvantages: Too hard for younger children
I first played Operation with my daughter 7 years ago. She had played it at a friends house and begged me to get it.
Operation can be played with two or more players and it suggests it is sutiable for 6 - 12 year olds, but it is a game for the whole family to play.
The game takes quite a long time to prepare but once everything is in place, the fun begins!
A patient is lying on a hospital bed with lots of strange and wonderful things inside him e.g. a horse (younger children will have a lot of fun imagining what it is like to have something like a horse in your stomach. There are some holes in his body where you have to get out the strange things he has eaten, using tweezers. If you touch him with the tweezers the light will beep, and flash red. There are "Docter" and "Specialist" cards and to add to the enjoyment the children get awarded with money (not real, obviously!).
The game is also educational as it teaches children how to count with large sums and they can be the banker and give out the right amount of money.
This game is quite hard and they could have made it slightly easier, by making the holes bigger.
Keep young children away from the game as it has many small parts!
Summary: Overall, it is a great game to play with the whole family on a rainy day
