Advantages: Easy to understand, bright colours, simple rules

Disadvantages: Bit simple for the older child in the age group

We bought this game at a car boot sale for the fantastic price of 50p and it had sat in my cupboard for about 6 months until recently when my son was in need of a new game to play. And am I glad that I had it!

The game is made by Orchard, who make fun educational games aimed at young children.

This particular game, Shopping List, is aimed at children agred between 3 and 7, and is for 2 to 4 players.

When you open the box you will find 4 shopping lists, 4 shopping trolleys and 32 items of shopping. To play the game you turn all the items of shopping face down on the table and take it in turns to choose a piece. If the item is in your shopping list you place it in your shopping trolley. Play continues until the winner has their entire shopping trolley filled with the 8 items on their shopping list.

The game is a memory game so if somebody turns over an item that is in your list you have to remember where it is on the table so that you can turn it over on your next turn.

The game lasts between 5 and 10 minutes which is plenty of time for children of the specified age. The pieces are made from cardboard which is coated to make it wipe clean and durable, although a bit of rough handling and I don't believe this game would last too long. However, it is a fun game, brightly coloured and easy to understand. The perfect game for pre-schoolers but I would be dubious as to how much interest a 7 year old would have in this game - definitely more for 3-5 year olds in my opinion.
