Advantages: bright and colourful based on well known verse

Disadvantages: lots of bits that can get lost

My three year old daughter was given this game for her birthday and absolutely loves it. It is her first introduction to the concept of board games, but she loves waiting for her turn to shake the dice!

This game is based on the traditional Insey Winsey Spider song which most three year olds know very well. The aim of the game is to help Insey climb to the top of the drainpipe before it rains.

It is a game for 2 - 4 players and I think that for three year olds they do need an adult playing with them! There are two versions - counting and shapes. Each player chooses a coloured spider and has a matching drainpipe board which has a blank side and a shape side. If you are playing the counting game you have the shape side of the drainpipe facing downwards and if you are playing the shape version they are facing upwards. The players basically throw a number die and move that many spaces up the drainpipe. With the shape version they throw a shape die and move to that shape on their drainpipe.

It all sounds very straightforward bu there is a twist!!
There is a weather spinner and on each go the player has to spin this and yess, you've guessed it. If it points to rain, they have to go back down the drainpipe and start again! Great fun!

As with all Orchard games, it comes in a bright stimulating box which contains four doble sided drainpipe boards, four spider counters, 1 spinner, i number die and 1 shape die, i dice shaker (which my daughter thinks is great - sometimes the old fashioned things are the best!) and very importantly, an instruction leaflet. Everything is very well made and sturdy which it needs to be with toddler.

I think it is a great game and really enjoy playing it with my daughter. She is having fun and practicing her colours, shapes and counting along the way! It costs about £8 but does seem to be worth It!

Summary: A fun learning game based on a favourite rhyme

Good idea to have a shape one for younger kids that can't read the numbers.
