Advantages: play grown-up
Disadvantages: food easy to lose
There's something about baby toys that simulate activities only meant for adults. My babies have toy phones, toy cooking equipment, toy post boxes and now a toy shopping game.
The Orcard Toys Shopping List is made up of:
4 shopping trolleys
4 pictured shopping lists
32 pictures of different foods
It's a winner, because you can play the game on different levels of difficulty. What I do with my two year old is grab a trolley, put all the food face up, then take a shopping list. We then point to something on the shopping list and he has to find it on the floor and put it in the shopping trolley: simple.
The next level of difficulty would be to have all the food face down, and learn by memory where they are, competing with someone else to fill your shopping trolley as soon as you can.
The game is simply made out of card, and does little to make it very exciting, but it's a winner with our son as he likes the idea of going shopping (just like in real life).
My only criticism is that the food is so small, you end up losing them. We have now lost 3 (don't know where) and this means you can't complete the game without saying "oh no, we don't have the chicken any more do we?" which isn't ideal.
Over all, a simple game that works because it allows kids to feel grown up. It's simple and portable, and would be ideal for playing on the train or maybe even in a car if your child doesn't get sick.
Summary: do it
