Advantages: May have the ability to contact the dead
Disadvantages: May have the ability to contact the dead
A Ouija Board is has the letters of the Alphabet around it, along with the numbers 0-9 and the words YES, NO and GOODBYE. Supposedly, the persons using the board place their hands lightly on the planchette or tumbler, whereby the spirit guides the planchette to a corresponding number, letter or word, thereby revealing messages from the 'other side.'
I'm not here to say whether this actually works or not. That will be entirely up to you to decide if you ever decide to dabble in this sort of thing.
Some people are total believers in the Board while others dismiss it as just a harmless bit of fun. Who is right? The believers will insist on its powers and cite claims of messages coming through that were correct, and of omens and warnings that came to pass, while the non-believers will tell you that it is simply a harmless bit of fun to while away a quiet evening, and not to be taken seriously at all.
Worryingly enough however, the Ouija Board is still being sold as a 'novelty item' or 'board game', and sold in many Toy Shops, which suggests to those who may not know any better, that the Ouija Board is just a harmless bit of fun, (which may or not be, depending on your own personal view).
The Board itself didn't emanate from the Mysterious East. or the Swamis. or anywhere the least bit mystical. In fact it originated from an American businessman hoping to make a fast buck!
Some people even find dabbling in this occult and darker side of things is blasphemous. They see it as communion with the demons, and totally against the scriptures, pointing out that God passed the death sentence on all mediums that had familiar spirits and also upon people consulting with them! It was most sternly forbidden by God as defiling. For there is only one God, and only one mediator between God and Men, the man, Christ Jesus.
Believers will inform you that the Ouija Board definitely works, while sceptics will try and disprove that it does, by pointing out that when tests were done whereby the letters on the board were jumbled up, and the people involved using the Board were blindfolded, then the 'messages' were totally nonsensical. They claim "how can this be" if spirits are truly guiding the planchette around the board!
Sceptics may also point out that 'believers' claim it is better to use two or more people on the board to make the planchette move because they are all giving their attention to it, opening up their 'Auric Field' to contact. The sceptic says that by using two or more people on the planchette then it is easy to be fooled into thinking that it is moving by spirit guidance, when all the time it is one of the board users doing it either 'as a prank' or without realising it subconsciously
As to whether I believe in this sort of thing, the jury's still out on this one. I remember dabbling in it when I was younger. Not believing it would work at the time, I rigged the sitting. I had one of those old-fashioned settees that you could lift the cushions right up to store clothes or whatever inside. I put one of my mates in there, hidden away, and told him that when we were using the Ouija, I would shout out, asking for the spirits to give a sign that they were with us. That sign was for him to tap loudly on the underside of the settee as loudly as he could! Anyway, my intended 'victims' arrived, and we sat down at the Ouja Board with the lights out, and only candles breaking through the darkness, giving an eerie glow to proceedings. After a short while I shouted out for any spirits present to give me a sign. Of course, there were five or six large heavy knocks emanating from the settee (as planned) which totally freaked out my two friends and they literally ran screaming from my house in utter dread. I had to disguise my laughter at their sheer horror, and when they were gone I switched the lights back on and opened up the settee to let my cohort out and to tell him how he had scared the living daylights out of our mutual friends. However, he was nowhere to be seen. Later, it transpired, he had crept out of the settee as he did not want to go through with our plan and didn't want to upset me by telling me this, so thought it best to leave without telling me. As you can imagine, this sent shivers down the back of my spine and made my hair stand on end. What goes around, comes around, I suppose!
Summary: Spirit contact via a board!
