Hasbro Pay Day
Advantages: excellent game
Pay Day must be one of my most played games. After receiving it for Christmas from my anty I played it weekly for months, could have been years.
The aim of the game is to be the person with the most money at the end of the game. It is very much like monopoly except you are not buying and selling houses.
Included in the game is:
One game board: this is a very colourful board and has a lot going on so it can be a bit overwhelming if you are not used to it.
Six counters: I like that there is a purple counter as it is my favourite colour. It's nice to have different colours rather than the usual red, green, blue and yellow. It is also good to have six as you can have more players joining in.
Purchase cards: these are one way of making money. I always hope to get the swimming pool.
Event cards: these are great if you win something but not so nice if you owe it. I like these cards though as I always hope for a good card, not always lucky though.
One regular dice and pay day cash and savings books (any savings in here by the 23rd of each month will earn you interest). I like this idea for a game as I havent seen savings in any other game.
At the start of the game each player gets given £1500 from the bank. This is a good boost to get you started earning money but if it is not spent wisely and you become bankrupt your in trouble.
Each player starts on the first day of the month and keeps rolling the dice until they get to pay day in the middle. When you reach pay day you earn your salary and start back at number one again. This continues until you get fed up of playing or someone stops the game.
The squares around the board have instructions which you follow. They are really easy to understand so even younger children should be ok following them.
Some of the common ones include:
'You have mail': pick up the required amount of mail cards. This can be fun as some of them are postcards which are amusing when you first read. After a few games we stopped reading them as you know what they say.
Purchase: pick up a purchase card which you may choose to purchase the item to sell on. There are some really expensive items that we all want to get.
Sell: this is your opportunity to become wealthy by selling your purchases. I love this bit as it gives me money, what I need to win the game.
What's on: here you pick up an event card. You could win the 'knobbly knees competition' or it may be time to pay out. These are a great boost to income as you get the money in an instant.
Others squares include 'happy birthday', good if it's you that lands there as each player must give £150. 'enjoy a day trip', just sit and enjoy doing nothing. Lottery, risk it and you could win big, a favourite square for me and my family.
This is a fantastic game to play with family, whatever there age. I like the unique squares like lottery which aren't in other games. This game is similar to monopoly, my favourite game, so I think if you are a fan of monopoly this is a game you should try.
