Advantages: Lots Of Play Value

Disadvantages: None

Pop Up Pirate comes in a box with a picture of the game on the front. It is made by Tomy. It is very well made and brightly coloured.

~Contents of the Box~

1 Barrel with holes for swords in it.

1 Popping Pirate who is quite cute with a black beard, moustash, a pink scarf hat and a happy smiley face.

6 Of each red, yellow, blue and green swords which fit into barrel.

1 Base for barrell to fit on.

~How To Play The Game~

To start the game first place the barrel on stand and then gently push pirate down into barrel until he locks into position.

Then each player chooses their favourite colour sword. This game is for 2-4 players.

Each player takes it in turns to slide their swords into the slots in the barrel.

But be careful, slide your sword into the wrong slot and up pops the jolly pirate and your out.

The remaining players take out their swords and then start the game again.

The winner is the last player left, alhough for a quicker game for younger players we sometimes play the winner is the one whose turn the pirate pops out on.

The mechanism that makes the pirate pop out of the barrel changes with every game so you won't know which slot it is because it's different every game.

~My Opinion And Play Value~

Great family game with an elment of suspense.....which gets lots of laughs when the pirate pops out. This game also has lots of play value:

Teaches younger children colours:different colours of the swords, pirate and game pieces.

Social and emotional development:Sharing and taking turns to play.

Helps with fine motor skills: quite difficult to put the swords in and take them out of the barrel.

Numeracy: counting when sharing out the swords.

Knowledge and understanding of the world: talk about pirates and how they really existed years ago.

~Age~

The recommended age is four years and above and I think this is because the swords are fiddley and quite hard to get in the slots. I have played this with younger children but they do need help and obviously close adult supervision.

~Price~

I bought mine for £9.97 from Tesco but you could probably find it cheaper online.

The kids in my class fight for this at wet playtimes.
