Advantages: Great game, easy to set up, great for all ages, reasonable price.

Disadvantages: None

Pop Up Pirate is a board game from Tomy designed for ages 6 and up and suitable for 2-4 players.

Inside the box you will receive one brown plastic barrel, plastic multicoloured base, one plastic pirate (eye patch & bandana included!) and 24 plastic swords in 4 different colours (red, green, yellow & blue) and one of the best features about this game is that it does not require any batteries so the only cost is the initial outlay is buying the game itself.

The game is very simple to play and each player will have their 6 plastic swords in their chosen colour and then each player will take it in turns to place a sword in to the barrel and one random slot each time will force the pirate to be ejected and that player loses the game. In our household we then eliminate that player and everyone else continues until a winner has been found and then we have around heat like that and then the two winners will compete in the 'grand final' and the winner usually gets a treat (chocolate bar, crisps, biscuit etc) and this seems to go down very well with the little ones and keep them entertained for quite a while.

The game set up is very simple and I have a 4 year old nephew who can do this no problem so providing you supervise play (due to small parts) I see no reason why smaller children can't play these games. This game is always a hit with the younger children although I personally find it a little boring because when I'm putting the sword in I can usually tell before I've fully inserted it if this sword is going to eject the pirate and I think that my nieces and nephew have got used to this now as well because they have been known on occasion to try and change their minds about where they want to go but I've made a rule up that if they've started to put the sword in that they have to finish it and if they lose they lose!

There is a fair bit of entertainment in this game and it usually gives the other players a bit of a shock when the pirate pops up and also brings mild relief that it wasn't me that made the pirate pop up. Because the slot is random it's also great as it makes this game quite equal for everybody playing and I think it's for this reason that it seems to be such a hit with the little ones!

This game is currently available from Amazon for just £9.78 and this is a fantastic price for a game that's going to provide lots of entertainment for years to come (no pieces lost yet!) and I am rating it 4/5 because the little ones find it entertaining and that is the reason that I buy these type of games (honest!).

Summary: A fantastic game for all ages.

My children used to love this but I remember thinking it was quite small when I first got it out of the box. x
