Advantages: Very quick to set up. Good family game.

Disadvantages: None

Pop up pirate, what a fantastic game for kids and adults as well. Especially after a few beers lol. Pop up pirate consists of a plastic barrel, which has slots around it. A base on which the barrel sits, plenty of coloured swords for sticking in the slots of the barrel and old black beard the pirate. All of the parts are made from good quality plastic, nothing feels like it will break under the constant bashing from the kids. Even the mechanism which controls the plunger feels like it will last forever. Each time you press the plunger in, you feel confident it is not going to jam or break.

Aim of the game:
Place the barrel on the base, inside the top of the barrel is a plunger, push this down until it locates and locks into position. Next place black beard into the top of the barrel on top of the locked plunger. Now each player takes it in turns to stick a sword into one of the slots around the side of the barrel. Be lucky and the sword will rest firmly in the barrel and no more will happen. Be unlucky and as the sword reaches the hilt, POP... The plunger is released and black beard is thrown from the barrel. Remove all of the swords stuck in the barrel, replace the plunger and you are ready to go again.

Verdict:
This is an excellent game one which all the family can enjoy. The materials are good quality as mentioned and the cost is around £10 which is good value. Unlike some games, this is very quick to set up once black beard has popped. There is no waiting around for fiddly pieces to be constructed again so the kids don't get bored hanging around. Game play can be quick if he pops on the first sword, though due to the short setup time you are soon playing again. A good adrenalin pumping game, surprising how nervous one can feel by sticking a plastic sword into the barrel. Excellent fun for all the family and very cost effective.

Summary: Great value for money lots of fun for all the family.

Good lord the memories. Somehow the prospect of losing at this game terrified me as a kid, despite the fact that it is entirely based on luck.
