This is the real face-to-face multiplayer contest that brings the competitive spirit out of the most unlikely people. Scalex Electric slot racing cars run on slotted track so you can take up the (low voltage) electricity in the centre of the track allowing them to run at huge scale speeds. Scalextric has improved car safety by replacing the ‘horse-rail’ crash barriers first with Armco and then by the curb sections so you can take those bends just a little faster. The set dressings are a waste of time and should be the sole domain of the uninspiring model train enthusiasts. This is for racing not admiring the little people and those really life-like ... Scalextric, that brings memories back to me. I had my first set in about 1960 with 2 D Type Jaguars and hard rubber track that you joined together with metal U clips. Even then the bug got me, and I started adding lap counters, pits, extra track, Coopers, Bentley's, well an endless list really. My mum had to move into another room so I could leave the track down permanently. She grabbed me by the collar one day and said " Son, I'm having the room back ", so I joined a club for Scalextric enthusiasts. At that time there were serious leagues, and the clubs all made really long 8 lane tracks out of hardboard, with the conductor rails being copper ... Read the complete review

Ah, this takes me back to my childhood. Getting a group of friends and wasting a saturday afternoon watching toy cars fly off the corner. This was about 15 years ago and I still bring it out on the odd occasion and it's still as fun and addictive as it ever was. If you've never played it, basically there are various packages you can buy, most based on race events and makes of cars relating to the tracks (such as Le Mans circuit with Porches). The track comes in pieces which you clip together in whatever layout you want. You slot the cars onto the track and control them with mains powered handheld triggers. Even though you can't steer the cars due ... Read the complete review

My First Sclaextric. I have a 3 year old son and have purchased this product for Xmas. Of course, I had to try set it up and make sure it worked before the big day. I purchased the basic "figure of eight set". This set is amazing. The whole set up occupies only 3ft by 2ft which is ideal as it does not take ove rthe whole room. The track took about 5 minutes to assemble. The cars are powered by a mains adapter and two variable speed controllers. The Cars also have built in magnets to help keep them on the track. When the cars are first used they judder a bit round the track (the track must be coated), but after about five or six laps they absolutely ... Read the complete review

OH, Scalextric!!! Was it just the best thing ever as a kid? I loved my first set that I had for Christmas 1978. I remember it well. I even remember the price on the box, £29.99 which was a lot then. This is not bad seen as I was only 4! I do still have the box lid!!! Maybe i should elaborate on what it is for those of you that dont know. It is a black racing track made out of foot long segments that clip together. There are 2 slots in the track that carry electricity from a transformer to the track. These 2 slots have one car in them each. The idea of the game is to race cars around the track and beat your opponent. The cars pick up the electricity from the ... Read the complete review
