Advantages: Stands the test of time, still great fun years later
Disadvantages: Some categories are quite hard to do
This is a brilliant board game based on thinking up words for particular categories which we have had for at least 20 years. To still get enjoyment from a game which has been used so many times over so many years gives some indication as to how good it is. Some of the actual category questions may have changed slightly over the years but the principle is the same. It is great fun and suitable for all ages although you could adapt the rules slightly if younger members of the family are playing.
The game is packaged in a very sturdy red box and has a picture of a cartoon man's head on the front with ideas coming out of his brain. Sounds a bit gory but it doesn't look it I promise!
The aim of the game is to write down an answer against 12 categories in each round for the same chosen letter. You set the timer (provided with the game) and have a couple of minutes to answer all your categories as best you can. The aim is to try and find an unusual answer in order to score the most points. For example, you might have to think of a country with E. If you think most other players will put down England, they won't score any points as a few people had the same answer, however, if you had put down Egypt you would be the only one to score on that round. You have 2 minutes in which to fill in all your answers. The answer sheets are provided in the game, as are the question cards, the timer and 6 pencils. At the end of the round you need to see if everyone came up with a unique answer or not per category. There's no score for the people with the same answers as each other or no answer but others will score for a unique answer.
It is an adaptable game though, if you think the people playing the game will struggle to think of an answer for a certain category you could always agree before switching the timer on to think of a different category which would be easier. It has proven really good fun over the years and everyone has enjoyed it that we have played with.
The timer makes you jump when it pings off so watch out for that!
Summary: Really good word game, gets you thinking (and laughing!)
