Scattergories is a classic board game which was first popularised in the 1990s. It has minimal pieces, some boards to lean on, an answer sheet notepad (which is just a list of 1-12 with blank spaces), pencils, a timer and the question cards. Board games tend to be quite expensive items, but in this case it is a well made item and will last the duration of being played a lot, so at around £20, it probably isn't too bad in terms of value.
==How to play==
Each player has a pencil and a blank answer sheet. The "topic" list cards are given out. There are 12 lists in total, one list might be "things found in a school" or "things found on the farm" or a theme about acting/film characters. It's easier than it sounds. The contestants get a couple of minutes (1.5 or 2 minutes) to fill in as many blanks as possible. The catch is, there is also a multi-faceted dice which someone rolls....which gives the letter for the round. If someone rolls a T, every answer for List 1 has to start with the letter T. If you had "Donald Duck" for example, you would get double points(20). If you have the same answer as someone else you get 5 points, if you have a unique answer you get 10 points.
We play this game every Christmas and occasionally through the year if we have friends round. What I liked about it was that it was quiet when people are thinking of their answers which was brilliant for the older generation of the family who struggle with hearing - if there is a board game with a question master, I found they tended to struggle. Scattergories generally has everyone in stitches because of all the dodgy answers that come up (in particular the older generation of our family tend to have a dirtier mind!!!). You can decide yourself how much cheating is allowed, we generally let some cheating take place or we have world war 3 on our hands.
I highly recommend this game to you. It is easy to play, doesn't take long to set up and can be played with all of the family. We had our five year old playing it and teamed her up with an adult so it can be done to keep kids amused to. Give it a go.
Summary: A great game for all the family
