Advantages: Great for your vocabulary, Extremely cheap to buy, Good family entertainment
Disadvantages: Gets boring after a while, Liable for arguments!!
What? You don't think that's a word up there? Oh, well you got me - but it would have got a LOT of points!
Scrabble is a vocabulary building game testing your dictionary knowledge, mixing it with tactics and decided how and where to play each tile.
There are 225 tiles in the game (15 by 15), and it is a game for 2-4 players.
The aim of the game is to create words from the 7 tiles you receive and place them down on the board maximising the points score you get, very much like a crossword style.
Different letters have different points scores, the rarer letters like Q are worth 10 points whilst common letters like E are worth 1 point.
You receive seven tiles - ie NWAIGTN - and you need to make up a word containing the most points as you can think of and put it down on the board. Different tiles have different properties. For example, some tiles will double or even triple your points for that word, and some will double or triple that individual letter. It is therefore worth putting a Q or Z word down on those tiles. In the case of the example, WANTING can be formed.
If you manage to put all seven tiles down in one go, you receive an additional 50 points for the privilege. This is difficult to do though, especially later in the game where less space is available.
The game is simple and fun to play, although it is difficult to keep hold of as it can get very boring.
You can customise the rules how you want. It doesn't have to be 7 tiles, you can opt for a time limit on the game, etc etc etc.
This can is incredibly popular nowadays - and is the best way to increase your vocabulary. It isn't expensive, and is available everywhere. A great educational game which is fun to play and is even better on the PC or PS2.

- 17/01/05 A game that I'd rather play quickly on a computer than in a drawn-out real life situation. The same goes for Monopoly. I do have friends.
Appar ently the Game Boy Colour version is highly addictive, but the Game Boy Advance version is rubbish. Don't ask me how I know though.
