Advantages: Can be very competetive

Disadvantages: Maybe a bit too much luck (still not a lot)

Scrabble is a board game and word game in one box. Each player has seven letter tiles at any one time, and taking it in turns, players must put down a word on the board using their tiles. Once the first word ha been played, further words can only be put down that connect to existing words (generally by using one of the letters already on the board).

Each letter has a value and you score by the total value of each word you put down. (Meaning you get higher points for words with tough letters such as x). To spice things up, some of the squares give you bonus points, such as twice the value of the letter which lies on that square, or twice the value of the word.

Although slightly flawed (certain easy words can pick up a lot of points, which introduces an element of luck), Scrabble is great fun and can become very competitive, resulting in great, thoughtful and engaging gameplay. The winner of the game tends to be decided by a bit of luck, but mainly their general ability at word games.

Summary: Really great even if you don't normally like word games
