Scrabble- I Wonder If That Word Is In The Dictionary

Mattel Scrabble Original
Advantages: combines luck and skill, fun to play in a group
Disadvantages: none for me
Scrabble is a word game where the aim of the game is for users to spell out different words on a board to get the highest score.
The rules of Scrabble are quite straight forward, each player draws 7 letter tiles each from a bag at random and without looking.
Each player then takes turn to make a word and place it on the board, if a player cannot make a word, then they have to pass their turn and can change their seven letter tiles for new ones (again choosen at random).
The person who begins the game place their first word within a Star box that is placed within the middle of the board. This star allows this player to receive a double word score.
Score is generated by the value on each letter tile and also your score will be also increased if you place a word within the bonus squares on the board.
The scores and all added up at the end of the game when either all the word tiles have been used or else when each participating player is in the position where they cannot make a move twice in a row.
*Words played on the board must be within the Dictionary and also within the English Language.
To make this game more interesting and more of a challenge, each letter has its own value which will contribute to your score and also within the board there are different bonuses such as Double or Triple Letter scores or Double or Triple Word Scores scattered throughout, the better the bonus, the less likely it is that you will be able to reach it on the board.
This game can be played with between 2-4 players, the more players there are within a session, the harder the game may be, as there will be less chance of getting the best letters at random and also there will be less chance of being able to take advantage of the word and letter bonuses on the board.
This game has been recommended to ages 10 and up, which I think is a pretty good recommendation as this game not only requires confident spelling and a good knowledge of the English language but also the concentration to play the whole game through which younger children will not have. This game contains small parts (the tiles) and should be kept away from young children.
I think that everyone who enjoys board games has either heard of or played Scrabble, there have been many versions of Scrabble released such as Junior Scrabble, Super Scrabble, Simpsons Scrabble and many more. However this review is about the Original Scrabble that I bought in Argos for £14.99 a few months ago.
My Personal Experience
Well I first played this game many years ago at my grandmother's house as a child, I never really enjoyed it much as I was more interested in playing game boy and watching cartoons (much like other children in my generation). Though when I bought it a few months ago and started playing it against my fiancé and another couple who we are close friends with I really enjoyed myself.
I am quite a competitive person and enjoyed the friendly competition that this game (like many other board games) offers. It can get quite competitive when aiming for triple world scores (of which are scarce on the board) and it can sometimes be difficult to make good scoring words with the letters tiles you have picked at random, this was a good feature for me as it gave the game a good mixture of skill and chance which makes it more exciting.
I think that this is a great buy, I didn't really like it as a child, but I am sure that there are plenty of children who would enjoy it, and if you could entice your child to play it, it would teach them precious grammatical skills and also could increase their concentration, there is also an easier Junior Scrabble with simpler rules available if you would like to check it out also for younger children.
I really enjoy playing this game now that I am a bit older and think that it is best played in groups of 4, however it is still fun to play 1 v's 1 as well.
I would recommend this game to anyone who loves a good board game and playing against their friends and family, though if you are not very good with words or spelling, this may not be within your taste. Overall I would give this game 5 out of 5.
