Scrabble Well I played a game last night and was inspired to write an opp so here it is Scrabble in 1934 Alfred Mosher Butts, an architect who had lost his job and whiled his time away developing a game he called Lexico it changed and became new anagrams. Alph, crisscross, criss crosswords the game he kept developing in 1948 he met James Brunt who rearranged and renamed the game in 1948 it was called scrabble and its trademark registered. Butts received royalties for the games sold. Scrabble can now be bought in many shops in different forms , travel scrabble, junior scrabble, de-lux scrabble, original scrabble, Scrabble is a word game designed for between 2 and 4 people played on a board with squares to lay letters on some are triple word scores some double, some triple letter scores and some double, most are single scores. Takes about an hour to play There are 100 letter tiles each with a number on them which you add up when you have laid the word. Scrabble can be very competitive when I was a teenager I lived in a shared house with 6 others we regularly played. And it became quite competitive. We still play sometimes when we meet up with one of the guys. My husband and I occasionally play, we usually cheat. It?s a gloomy winters evening game. It is good to play with children teaching and giving them practice of spelling. As well as the obvious educational skills it teaches social skills, turn taking, and sharing how to lose/win gracefully. No I did not win last night Nick ( my husband ) won by about 12 points. Thanks for reading Mary

- 19/01/03 a nice summary of the game there. I like scrabble but always seem to end up playing with someone who's a walking dictionary. |
