Advantages: Fun for kids

Disadvantages: Boring for adults

Snakes and Ladders has to be the best game ever invented... for children. I played it the other day as an adult and my oh my is it one dimensional! Ok so I know that sounds obvious but I used to get so much pleasure from it as a child that I thought the nostalgia would be enough to make playing it again an enjoyable experience.

This simple board game has one hundred squares, numbered 1 to 100 that run consecutively from bottom to top. Randomly there are ladders and snakes running from one square to another.

Each player takes a turn to roll the dice and move their piece the requisite number of squares. If they land at the bottom of a ladder they climb up to the connecting square. If they land at the head of a snake, they slide down to the connecting square at its tail.

The winner is the first to get to the one hundredth square. It's that simple.

This game is a real winner with very young children, because it is so straight forward... slightly dull for adults (ok so I know I should have guessed that!)

Summary: A classic!

I used to love this as a kid, but it certainly doesn't sound as interesting now I'm an adult!
