Advantages: Simple and safe
Disadvantages: A bit dull for some
'Snakes and Ladders' is a classic board game which is mainly played by children.
To play, a minimum of two players must take turns to roll a dice, with the aim of reaching the top corner of the board. Landing on a square which is also the start of a 'ladder' allows the player to move his or her piece to the top of the ladder - whilst landing on the head of a 'snake' results in the player moving back down to the end of the snakes tail - it's as simple as that!
The basic concept for Snakes and Ladders is based on an ancient Indian game called 'Paramapada Sopanam' - which apparently means 'the ladder to salvation'. The version we play today was introduced to England towards the end of the 1800's, and hasn't changed over the years.
In an age where the majority of kids games seem to be electronic , or of the video game variety, a game of Snakes and Ladders reresents a move back to gaming in it's most basic form... fun for the family! - although it seems that kids are harder to entertain these days!
I haven't played Snakes and Ladders for years, as it's aimed at a young audience - but I do feel the game is an entirely safe experience for kids - who nowadays are more used to being exposed to violent computer games and the like.
Over the years, Snakes and Ladders has had many variations in style and theme, but the original version can be bought from Amazon for £6.99.
Summary: Decent game
