Advantages: fun for a bit
Disadvantages: breaks
The world of football games has come a long way since this little number was king. Buy a game of subbeuteo and this is what you can expect:
You get a green felt mat which has the football pitch markings on it. You get two teams of players, which are tiny plastic models on oval bases. You get some balls.
The aim of the game is to play football and control the ball through flicking the figure who is nearest. In theory it sounds fine, but in practice, it was ridiculous.
First up, what happens when the ball isn't directly on one of your men? I never worked that out! Secondly, the men snap so easily - give them a hard flick and you're a man down. Third, the flicking takes some real skill - I was forever booting it off the table and under the sofa - not the best of players admittedly.
Considering this is meant for kids who like football - a strong, physical game, it couldn't be more delicate. You really had to play it slowly and gently, and it just wasn't anything like the real thing.
Also, with all the players, and being really tiny pieces, it's inevitable you'll lose the ones you don't break, so this is another game that becomes unplayable after a while: a complete waste of time.
Summary: no thanks

- 09/08/09 Wow you really didnt like this did you! I loved playing this as a kid and never managed to break figures. It was a game of skill and tactics.
As to what happens when the ball wasnt on one of your men well the ball stayed with the same team until it touched one of their players. The skill was in moving your defence where you thought the other player was going :o) |
