Advantages: See your yappiest relatives tongue-tied

Disadvantages: Can be frustrating!!!!

Such a simple idea, yet so much fun. That is how I would descibe Taboo in one line.

We bought this game for something to do at Christmas and have never looked back. The concept of the game is that you work in teams to try and describe certain objects to your teammates without using the Taboo words (of which there are five.) No gesturing is allowed - or you will be squeaked with the little purple squeaky thing which causes amusement to all ages!! Also you are not allowed to cheat by using ' rhymes with..' so I hereby challenge you to find a way of legally 'cheating' at this game - I doubt you will find it!!

You also get an egg timer which I think is a minute, in which you have to guess as many correct answers as you can before handing over to the other team. Because this is a team game, you need a mimimum of four players, but it is better played with more ( and the more alcohol you drink the funnier it becomes). The idea is that for each correct answer you get to move your counter one square round the board and the quickest to get to the end of the board wins.

The only downside of the game is that some people take to it quicker than others so the competition isn't very fierce to begin with, but you either get better very quickly at it ( My Mum was lost for words at the beginning with was a sight to behold!) or you place the weakest players on opposite teams to even up the contest. It is easiest with a partner/huband/wife because you tend to (or should!)know how their mind works.

Taboo can also be used as agood drinking game ( instead of squeaking the squeaker for saying a taboo word you have to down a shot of Vodka - or whatever your tipple may be.)

This game is great fun (a bit like pictionary or charades but with words) and would suit anyone over the age of about 15. The guess words range from easier ones such apple to squadron leader to words that I haven't even heard of ( you can pass on
two words).

So look for the purple box in your nearest games shop and remember - Be careful out there!!

Looks like fun to me especially in gatherings. We can maybe try the game using improvised materials. Nice op, keep on writing... Alex
