“ The Stone is a combination of on- and off-line elements which make up a puzzle. The premise is that on buying the off-line part, you receive a stone necklace which will correspond only to one other such necklace, that of your StoneMate. „

I bought this game a while ago and since then I have not been able to keep away from the computer! This game called the stone opens up a whole new world of mystery and adventure. What you actually get for your money is very basic. I bought it as I saw it on firebox.com and was curious as to what this new game was. So instantly I sent off for it. It arrived and I initially thought 'oh my god, this has just cost me 15 quid!' It was in fact 15 quid well spent. You get a stone pendant neatly packaged in a black box and a booklet. But anyway I went to the official website www.thestone.net and registered my stone. There are two of every stone in the world so hopefully you are able to find your stone partner and solve the puzzles together. So what is the stone? It is a game you can access online once you have registered your stone pendant. Your stone is your link to another person somewhere in the world. Once you find them this person is your stonemate and you can solve the puzzles together. The Enigma is the online community where all stone owners meet, help each other out and where you can access the puzzles and challenges. There are many cryptic challenges, puzzles and riddles for you to solve made up of images, sounds etc. Each time you solve one of these puzzles you are one step further into unravelling the mysteries. The stone masters add new puzzles from time to time to allow you to progress further with the game but only once you have completed all of the ones already there. Each time you solve a puzzle you get clues that will help you to solve other ones. As you progress further, the puzzles get slightly trickier, some of them taking possibly a couple of hours to solve as you must do your own research on the internet in order to gain the answer. Since I bought this, I have been addicted to looking for answers and have spent a very long time sitting infront of my compute
r being frustarted when I couldn't find out what they were! It's quite good fun and you can get to meet and chat to alot of people all with the same goal in mind - solving the mystery. This does seem to be a never ending game as it has been running for over two years and no one has solved the mystery yet, so it is gret value for money. It makes a great unusual pressie for those who like a challenge or someone who has everything. If you are unsure, there is a free demo on the website called the unknown where you can try out a few of the puzzles - www.thestone.net The stone is a fun new game, but would only reccommend it if you enjoy a challenge and don't get bored too quickly. But give the demo a go and see what you think for yourself.
I bought The Stone just before Christmas, initially for my brother, but once I'd bought it curiosity overcome me and I couldn't part with it. As explained before, the idea of the "game" is to solve a number of cryptic puzzles and riddles with the aim of solving The Enigma. As you solve puzzles, new ones are revealed to you, so as long as you keep solving the puzzles, you should not get too bored. The subjects of the riddles are fascinating and I think are designed to start you thinking about the world around you and how and why we do the things we do. To help you to solve the puzzles there is a Notice Board on the site called The Commons where other players post nudges and hints to help you solve the sometimes extremly cryptic clues. They also recommend which search engines to use and some highly useful sites. A word of warning though, the game has now been going over 2 years and there seems to be a slow down in the number of puzzles being added. Most of the veteran players have now solved all the puzzles currently available and are waiting for more to appear. The Stonekeepers (the "owners" and guardians of the site) seem to be taking their time with the new clues. However, all in all I think its money well spent - although if you pay for internet access you may soon find your bill soaring as some of the puzzles take more than a few hours research to solve. If you've got an enquiring mind, and enjoy spending hours in front of a computer buy this game.
Recently I heard about a new type of game that is played on the Internet, called The Stone. The idea is that when you buy the Stone you get a pendant with 6 unique symbols on it. There are only two identical pendants in the world, and so you're first task is to find your "Stone partner" or match. Unfortunately for me, my Stoner" mate hasn't bought the bleedin' game yet! The point of the actual game is simple yet extremely intriguing. With your Stone, you log-on to the game's official website and attempt solving very unusual puzzle games that I certainly have never seen anything like it before. They could be compared to MENSA type games, including cryptic riddles, mind games and for some you have to do a lot of research using the Internet. With your Stone pendant you get a little booklet telling you more about the game, which also explains that "Only you can solve the Enigma through using your Stone and the Internet. Only time will reveal the question, and the Answer." Hmmmmm indeed. There's no doubt that this is an totally original game, it's been going for over 2 years and STILL no one has solved the mystery. At different periods of time, small clues are revealed by the so-called Stone Keepers (makers of the game) that help you get closer to solving the overall game... the mystery of The Stone. This would make a very nice christmas present for people who like games such as Rubick's cube etc.. Why not buy it online (like I did) at Firebox.com
