Advantages: Good fun and simple to play/make
Disadvantages: soon gets boring
If you have ever played Yahtzee you will remember it. Its quite good fun for such a simple game. The trick and magic behind it is that anyone could win this game with a bit of lady luck from the dice and a bit of judgement on the scoresheet. In fact, if you have an old scoresheet or you know the scoring system, you dont even need to go and buy a set. Make your own. Equipment --------- You need very little equipment to play this game. If you buy a set from the shop (for about £15) you will get: 5 Dice. A shaker A square dish to pour the dice into. Scoring cards A pencil. That is all you need so, as you can see, its not rocket science to devise your own set. The square dish is coated in Green felt to give it that Vegas/casino feel. The shaker is a pre formed plastic container designed to look like a leather bound shaker. Fails miserably. The dice are quite large. Not like your average Monopoly dice but any 5 dice can be used. Gameplay -------- You can play up to 6 players. Each player takes his or her turn to throw the dice all at once from the container. The player then diceds which of the dice he/she wants to retain and puts them to one side. The remaining dice are put back into the shaker for a 2nd throw. After the 2nd throw, the dice are examined and the selected score writen down. The shaker is then passed to the next player as it is the end of the players go. You then have a further 14 throws of the dice, taking it in turns and recording the best scores. You have to try and get as many 1's,2's,3's,4's,5's and 6's, as possible and record the total. The poker influence plays a part as you must also try and score a full house ( 2 of one score and 3 of another) as well as the the elusive Yahtzee. That is all five dice the same. It really is a good game. I had many fun times playing it over a few beers while at uni. Its cheap
and anyone can make it. Go on, have a go. Drawbacks are its longevity. A couple of games of it are enough for one day. Any more and you start finding excuse to go out! Remember the dodgy advert on the TV a few years ago advertising it?

- 25/04/01 Addictive little game, I love it. A tip though you can buy the replacemnet pads in Smiths for a couple of quid and dice for about the same, rather than pay £15.00 for the same in a box. Good op :) |
