I think Yahtzee must be one of the best games invented. It is simple to learn but tricky to play. Every roll is a decision to make, strategy to develop. Its a ganme which can be played by young and old on an even footing and as such is great for keeping the youngsters amused. There is no bigger thrill for a child than to beat an adult at a game.

Yahtzee is so portable it can be played anywhere. All you need is the five dice, a scorepad and a reasonably flat surface. I have played it on ferries and trains and its great for whiling away the time. You do not even need a scorepad as a pencil and the back of an old envelope are all you need to draw your own.

Yahtzee is an offshoot of dice games which are played all over the continent in pubs. Most British tourists only go to city centre shiny pubs on holiday, but I have spent many a happy time in real "locals" in places like France, Germany and Holland. Many of these places have pub games revolving around the dice tray. Often these games are played for money or drinks.

In conclusion, yahtzee is one of our favourite family games, its self contained, you can play as many or as few rounds as you want and its equally good for taking up 15 minutes up to an hour or more. No two games are ever the same and its a lot of fun.
