Lush Charity Pot
by Eilidh70
I've received this hand and body lotion as a gift on a couple of occasions, being a big fan of Lush products and the company's commitment to avoiding animal testing and using ingredients that are vegetarian-friendly. The lotion retails for £6.95 (95g) or £12.75 (240g) and there's a sample size of 10g for £1.00.
Charity Pot is ... named after the fact that Lush donates to various charities on all purchases of the lotion. Each pot has details of the charity that will benefit. However, for me this is just an added bonus of buying this lotion, which is of sufficiently high quality that I would purchase it anyway.
The lotion has a distinctive cocoa aroma that you will either love or hate. I personally love it, but it may be a little strong for those who prefer unscented products. As well as Fairtrade cocoa butter, there are essential oils such as ylang ylang in the lotion, but the overall smell is definitely cocoa butter.
This is a lotion rather than a cream, and there's a risk of spillage with the Lush pot design. The lotion comes in a black plastic pot with a lid that twists on and off, and on a few occasions I've tipped the pot slightly on opening and some of the lotion has spilled out. The lid does tend to become a little messy.
Unlike other lotions, however, this product does tend to give longer-lasting moisturising benefits to my skin. It absorbs well, and leaves the skin feeling like a thicker cream has been used. You can tell that there is plenty of premium quality cocoa butter in this lotion.
I find Charity Pot a suitable lotion for applying on a daily basis after showering. It has never caused any irritation on my skin, and feels like it is doing the skin some good, unlike short-acting products that are full of chemicals. Read the complete review |

Lush Silk Stockings Body Tint
by thehonesttruth
I have very pale skin that doesn't tan well (thank you Dad, for your ginger genes), and I've never been able to get on well with wearing tights - I always ladder them, and I don't like the feel of them against my skin. So when a friend mentioned Lush Silk Stockings to me last summer, explaining that it was essentially a massage bar for ... your legs that would make it look as if you were wearing tights, I decided to give it a go.
I ordered online (Lush stores always give me a migraine after a few minutes) and I believe it cost me about £7.50 at the time for a 30g bar (I can't actually see it on there at the moment, although Black Stockings, the same product for darker skin types is available to purchase, so may just be out of stock).
The bar is quite a sweet little heard shape, and a sort of pink colour with a hint of shimmer to it. It works in just the same way as other Lush massage bars - it quickly begins to melt at body temperature, so to apply you just need to rub the bar down your legs and then massage in with your hands to get an even colour coverage. It massaged in very well, and had a lovely scent to it, a mixture of jasmine and sandalwood that is very exotic, and actually quite a mature scent.
It doesn't sink into the skin, but rather sits on the top. My legs felt very silky after applying this, but they did feel a little oily too, which I wasn't too keen on. They looked fantastic though - as I have very skin, I applied very sparingly, and then spent a lot of time massaging and spreading to get a very subtle shimmer effect, that looked like a healthy hint of tan. Depending on how 'tanned' you want to look, you may want to apply more of the product, I have experimented with building this up in layers, but on me just a very thin coverage looks best.
I really liked the subtle shimmer effect. My legs, despite their general pastiness, are actually a part of my body I like the shape of, and the shimmer really helped highlight the angles and curves. I was worried that this might rub off throughout the day, but actually it seemed quite determined to stay put on my skin. I also worried about it marking my clothing, and I certainly wouldn't be brave enough to try this when wearing a pale coloured skirt, or an item that couldn't be machine washed, as I worry that the oils might damage or stain the fabric. It seemed to get on alright with my denim skirt though!
Despite it's determination to stay put on my skin when worn, it showered off quite easily, though it did leave a greasy residue in my tub that needed to be cleaned off. My skin once I'd removed the product still seemed very soft and moisturised, so as well as looking good it did my skin some good too.
My bar of this lasted me about 3 months, with a few uses each month (we really didn't have a very good summer this year). I was pleased that the bar (which I kept in a tin) didn't dry out between uses. Given that I have never kept a pair or actual tights or stockings beyond one wear due to clumsiness and inevitable laddering, this has definitely saved me some money versus buying actual tights.
The only downside is that, with the sun having made it's first appearance this year, I can't find it available online at the moment, and there isn't any use on whether or not they'll be bringing it back. It may still be available in stores, so I'll brave a visit to my local Lush shop soon - migraines or not, this is a great product for my pale skin, and makes me look much less pasty without any need for fake tan. I'll be taking one off for the slight oily feel on my skin all day though, wasn't so keen on that. Read the complete review |
