The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter
by freaks74
I have been using this product on and off for about 10 years now and it is by far the best body moisturiser out there and I have tried a lot of different products.
No matter what I have done to my skin over the years this product has always been consistent, even down to shaving my legs in a saucepan with the bluntest razor and some ... warm water and this has never let me down. A lot of other similar body butters just don't have the same moisturising properties in comparison to the Body Shop butters, I have often found that some of the cheaper versions don't actually sink into my skin and just sort of settle on the top and within a few hours my skin feels very dry again. This is never an issue for this body butter, even just once a day and my skin stays pretty soft.
This smell isn't for everyone but it's my personal fave and it always reminds me of holidays, speaking of which I have even found this body butter trumps even the most expensive after sun for the spot of sun burn, I even convinced my Dad to use it recently and he is of the men don't moisturise school so that surely recommendation in itself!! The Body Shop Satsuma Body Butter
by AbsintheFairy
Not content with my Lush collection, I've been buying quite a few toiletries from The Body Shop recently. An advantage to this is that The Body Shop often has special offers on, which Lush rarely does, so I can obtain the products much more cheaply. Having previously tried and enjoyed some items from the Satsuma range, I turned my ... attention to the body butter and got hold of a smaller 50g tub. This normally costs £5 and the larger 200ml tub is £12.50, but though I can't remember exactly how much I paid, it certainly wasn't the full price!
The body butter comes in a bright orange tub with a label covered in pictures of satsumas. Inside, the butter is a pale orange colour and emanating from it is the delicious fresh scent of satsumas. The smell is very natural and lovely. I never used to like citrus scents, but Lush and The Body Shop between them are converting me! The scent makes the product ideal for use throughout the year: it's fresh and summery, but being a satsuma scent, it also evokes the festive season and those satsumas you get at the bottom of your Christmas stocking (which, I admit, I tend to put back in the fruit bowl when my mam isn't looking!).
The delicious scent of this product derives from the satsuma essential oil contained within. The butter's moisturising properties come from Community Fair Trade shea butter and cocoa butter. The former comes from the all-female Tungteiya Shea Butter Association in northern Ghana. The trade has helped to fund services including medical centres and nursery schools.
Body butters are designed as a more intensive alternative to body lotions, and I don't use this one every day. Rather, I keep it for after my evening shower (I shower in the evening at least twice a week after visiting the gym), and it acts as an intensive moisturiser overnight. I scoop out a little of the body butter and rub it into my skin until absorbed, repeating until my whole body is covered. A little goes a long way, so the product lasts a good amount of time. I am very impressed that, despite being quite thick, the product sinks in really well. I have tried the matching Satsuma Body Lotion and found it to be slightly sticky, but this is not the case with the body butter at all: I can get dressed (or get my pyjamas on) almost straight away after applying.
After use, my skin feels incredibly moisturised, smooth and not at all irritated. The moisturised feeling lasts right up until the next morning, when I have another shower before work. Clearly the body butter does the job it is designed for very well.
In addition to the product's fantastic moisturising properties, the delicious satsuma scent really lasts on the skin too. It remains all evening and is lovely and refreshing. However it's not so strong to be cloying or to stop me going to sleep.
Altogether, I can't think of a single bad thing to say about this body butter. It smells delicious, moisturises extremely well, lasts ages and, provided you get it on special offer or with a discount code (both of which are frequent), it is value for money. Five stars from me. The Body Shop Wild Cherry Body Butter
by wazza115
Just after Christmas, I spotted that the Body Shop has reduced the cherry body butter to less than £4 for a 200ml tub, although I had never purchased the cherry fragrance before, I am a big fan of the strawberry and thought that this wouldn't be too dissimilar so I decided to buy a few.
The butter comes in a bright red pot ... with a screw top lid; the fragrance is easily identifiable by the image of mouth watering cherries covering the lid. When it comes to any type of fragrances, for me, the fruitier, the better and this one doesn't disappoint, as soon as I unscrew the lid, the aroma of those juicy cherries starts to emerge from the pot. The fragrance is quite strong, so much so that you don't really need to put the pot to your nose to know what fragrance it is. Unlike a lot of creams, the fragrance of the butter is really realistic; it doesn't smell synthetic at all like some cheaper brands I have used in the past. Just like the name says, this is just like butter except it is a pale pink colour, applying is easy and the butter glides over my skin and absorbs really easily and quickly.
The only downside of the butter coming in a tub I find is to apply, I have to dip my fingers into the tub, and this means that I get the butter under my nails!
The body butter is available in store and online, the recommended retail price for a 50ml pot is £5 and for a 200ml pot is £13, I class this as quite expensive for a body cream but the Body Shop always have loads of great online offers such 40% off or reduced the 200ml tubs to £5 so I always tend to stock up then. I have also signed up to their newsletter and every week or so, I tend to receive an email with some fantastic discounts. Also, if you buy online, there are normally some fantastic cash back offers available too (about 15 - 20%!)
The results are that my skin feels nice and smooth however unlike the rest of the butters I have used, this one doesn't seem to hydrate as much as the others; the skin on my lower legs tends to get a little dry from shaving and I find that they still look a bit dry a few hours after applying the cream. On normal skin however I do find the butter quite sufficient. The fragrance is long lasting too which I love, at the end of the day, I can still smell the fruity aroma on my skin - I do however have to be a bit careful as to what perfume I am wearing as it can sometimes clash.
Overall, I would recommend this, but because it isn't as good with dry skin as some of the other butters, I would only give 4 out of 5 stars.
