Advantages: Offers protection
Disadvantages: Can't be used on he face
Garnier Ambre Solaire Clear protect gel SPF 15
I sometimes find that creams can be quite heavy on the skin and can cause heat rashes, so decided to give this gel a go.
THE PROMISES...
The transparent gel promises:
* 100% non greasy
* Photostable UVA/UVB protection
* Instantly absorbed
* Protecs against sun induced skin damage
* Water resistant
* Dermatologically tested
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The gel contains an advanced patented filtration system Mexoryl XL which will protect the skin against sun damage.
As with many of these kinds of products, the "secret" ingredient is patented and so we will never find out exactly how it protects us.
HOW DO I USE IT?
As with most sun products, it is very simple to use:
* Apply generously before exposure to the sun
* Reapply frequently
* Don't use on the face- this is an unusual one, and I can only assume that it may burn the more delicate skin on the face.
PRODUCT AND PACKAGING...
The gel comes in a 150ml white plastic bottle with a flip open/close lid.
When i squeeze some of the gel out, i see that it is slightly orange in colour (a hint of orange!!) and it is also quite runny- too thick a gel and I think it would be difficult to apply evenly.
The gel does contain a fragrance but the main scent for me is citron- could be good to keep the bugs at bay.
The gel does apply easily and although I did think that it might just lie on the skin, it is easily absorbed leaves a very light sheen rather like the sheen when an oil is used. The gel also seems to exfoliate skin and as we rub it in, it seems that dead skin is rubbed off the skin; very gentle though and there don't seem to be any particles in the gel- it's completely smooth.
MADE BY...
Garnier, Paris
The website, www.garnier.com gives lots of information about the available products and the gel is available in other factors, so it's worth having a look to see if there is anything suitable for your needs.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY...
The gel costs around the £7 mark which is good value although I did find that it didn't last as long as some creams, probably because i liked it and tended to use alot of it.
VERDICT...
A pleasant smelling, easy to use gel which gives some protection against sun damage. For anyone wanting something between an oil and a cream I would recommend this.
Thanks for reading.

- 18/06/09 Not sure I'd want to carry around one for my face and one for everywhere else when on holiday. |

- 10/06/09 The thing is though, with a sun factor of SPF 15 isn't this too low to be of any benefit for high temperatures/sunny weather? I always buy the 40 rated ones just to be on the safe side. |
