Burn baby burn,
No we do not want our babies and children to burn in the sun. There are many creams available to protect our babies and our delicate skins I have a bottle of Ambre solaire kids moisturising sun block milk this is suitable for sensitive skins. I will tell you about it in a moment
The advice we are given to protect little ones (and ourselves) from the sun is first to cover up exposed skin. To keep out of the sun especially between the hours of 11 and 3pm.
Children are encouraged to go out to play in the sun at school and not all playgrounds have shade, fortunately the school I work in does have some shade under the trees he summer we position the children in wheelchairs under them and we have a bench under the trees that the more able pupils can sit on.

We like it when the children wear light shirts /dresses that have sleeves to cover their arms. We try and encourage parents to send sun hats for their children.
We also ask parents to send in sun protection creams. Which we will apply to exposed areas Arms, legs and the back of the neck is an area a lot of our children get sun on. A child in a wheelchair may have a floppy head that flops forward naturally, if they have short hair their necks may get badly burnt. We encourage parents to send in sun cream, as we do not want to be liable for using cream which child may be allergic to.
Also we have had many thoughts about the possibility of being accused of abusing our children when applying sun cream. Permission is sought from the parents to enable us to put sunscreen on our children. If your pupils are able It is best to get them to apply cream themselves, less risk for you and also teaches the child good practice.
Anyway there is a good guide to the use of sunscreens in schools at http://www.galaxy-h.gov.uk/pdf/HEA-Sunscreens-leaf let.pdf if you are a professional and wish to read it,

Now onto Ambre solaire kids moisturising sun block.

The one I have is factor 35 it is possible to get lower and higher factors the factor numbers indicate how long you can stay in sun with out burning.
If you start burning after 10 minutes then multiply the factor by 10 minutes then that’s about how long you can stay in the sun with that cream on so 10-x factor 35 = 350 minutes so it should be safe to stay in the sun for 5 hrs 50 minutes.
This sun block is available at a lot of chemists and other stores. I think I bought mine at Boots costs about £10 for 200mls. I find this cream very effective. Squeezing the bottle you get a thin white liquid a bit like single cream this absorbs well when rubbed into your skin does not leave your skin feeling sticky.
This protective cream says it is more water resistant and high sand resistant.
However I think to err on the safe side I might reapply if on the beach for a long time.
This sun cream contains a moisturiser to keep skin soft
If you should get this in your Childs eyes rinse out with clear water.
I find this sun cream a good one to use, be wise protect your child from dun burn this year, this cream is also suitable for use on adults particularly good for those with sensitive skin. It is hypoallergenic minimises risk of allergic reactions, Have fun in the sun keep skin safe. The damage we do to our skins when we are young has an effect on our health in later years

Interesting to read what you with other people's children, that's an issue we have raised several times at our pre-school. Helen
