Advantages: Protects from sunburn, reasonably priced, gentle on skin
Disadvantages: have to reapply frequently
In my last opinion I introduced you to a product that calmed sunburn and moisturised your skin after exposure to your sun. There are so many doctors, magazines and other people telling us that it is so important to protect our skin from the sun and before I wasn't really bothered until my Nan got skin cancer a year and a half ago. Sure, she is fine now and free from cancer but if you saw the hole in her back you probably would feel quite sick. When I first saw it I felt really ill and blood and stuff doesn't bother me. She had a really deep hole and had to have skin grafts from her leg but although the hole is a bit shallower it is still quite deep. She was in a lot of pain at this time and obviously is very conscious of her hole in her back. Although my skin is not as fair as hers, I have become a bit more sensible and try to use a good sun cream. I do sunbathe for a tan, but if I feel like my skin is getting too hot or starting to burn I go inside the shade until the sun's heat dies down a bit. I have also become a huge fan of Clarins fake tan range (please see recent ops in my page). Fake tans these days are great, but if you are going to go in the sun please use a good sun tan lotion like the following. PRODUCT Ambre Solaire Moisturising Protection Milk is a sun milk that is really good. It is suitable for sensitive skins, Anti UVA/UVB, Photostable, water resistant and contains Mexoryl® SX. I will explain these further later on. It protects your skin from sunburn and long-term damage. Other benefits is that it is hypoallergenic, and it meets with European, Australian and Japanese standards - all of which are high standards that need to be met. Also its UVA star rating is **** (four star) which is the maximum. PACKAGING The bottle is white in colour with orange and black writing on it. It does not really stand out, as many sun creams have a similar colour code but it is smart packaging. The bot
tle is long with rounded tops and with a flip top lid so it is easy to use, especially when you are fiddling around on the beach. I do like the packaging, and the bottle is easy and lightweight to carry around. The bottle is 200ml in size, which should last a while. PRICE This sun lotion cost £6.40 from the co-op. I think this is extremely reasonable. I have paid a lot more for sun tan lotions; I cannot believe that I bought this good make for a reasonable price. I think that it is good because wearing sun cream is so important and people should not be put off by expensive prices. WHERE TO BUY You can buy this from anywhere, really. The co-op, Boots, supermarkets, Superdrug and local chemists. The prices may vary from place to place so shopping around for them is a good idea. BENEFITS AND GLOSSARY OF THE PRODUCT - UVB rays are the rays that mainly burn your skin. The product makes a filter to stop these rays burning you. There are also UVA rays, which are the rays that cause long-term damage and ageing as they penetrate deep into your skin. This product filters out these rays also. - Hypoallergenic - for those of you with sensitive skin, this shouldn't cause you any allergic reactions as it has been tested to minimise the risk. - Factor 15 - you can buy different factors of sun cream; this one gives 15 times your skins natural protection against sunburn. - Photostable - does not break down with the suns energy. Some sun creams become less effective so you regularly need to re-apply. You should regularly re-apply this sun cream also, but the protection will not drop over time. - Water resistant - This product resists up to 40 minutes in water, so you can be protected whilst you're swimming. (Although always reapply after swimming). - Moisturising - The sun will dry out your skin, this prevents this. - Mexoryl® SX - deep protecting that stops UVA rays. WHAT I THOUGHT OF IT
I am very impressed with this product and I think that it is very effective in its job. I will definitely be using this throughout the summer and when I go to South Africa in a month's time. I use lots of different types of sun creams and this one sounds particularly impressive, with lots of features that I have not seen on other brands. OVERALL I thoroughly recommend this product and everyone should have a bottle of Sun cream in their house. It is becoming more important all of the time and I have seen what a cancerous mole can do so also check those regularly. SOME ADVICE Try not to burn - I recently read that one case of sunburn increases the risk of skin cancer by 50%. Wear a hat - It is hard to put sun protection on your head if you have hair, and you can still get skin cancer there. It also keeps you cool and stops you from dehydrating. Protect Children - Children's fair skin is especially important as they burn more easily and it is easier to get them into good habits now rather than later. Seek shade between 11AM and 3PM - I admit that I don't do this but the sun is very hot at these times and if I feel that I am getting too hot I go under some shade. Reapply your sun cream frequently and generously - otherwise it's not worth bothering in the first place, as you will burn.
