Advantages: It soothes and softens the skin
Disadvantages: It can melt easily
Aqua Mirabilis could possibly be my ultimate Lush product. It has everything I need and really three may be minor little faults, but was product doesn't? I was fortunate to try this bar before it was taken away, if only for a short while! Rather than reading up on the product I instead just bought it straight away because I thought the name was good! But in a way I'm so glad I didn't read up on as it was a great little surprise!
Aqua Mirabilis was discontinued in the spring of 2004 but later reinstated as a retro product, was a Luxury Bath Melt. Topped with white ballistic crystals, marigold petals and filled to the brim with ground almond shells, it was meant to be used as an "Underwater Massage Bar" for scrubbing your entire body just before you are soaked in its rich cocoa butter and apricot kernel oil base while breathing in subtle notes of relaxing rose and sobering sandalwood. What more could you possibly want in a bath melt? It does what it says on the tin so to speak!
Unlike Lush' s other Luxury Bath Melts (and yes I've tried most!), Aqua Mirabilis was more of a 2-in-one spa quality (just at the fraction of the cost!) body exfoliator and bath, giving the water a sultry creaminess much like a rather exotic milk bath that leaves a soft, sweet floral and woods fragrance on your goddess-like skin. You obviously don't get bubbles with bath melts, but this one leaves a lovely rich velvety white layer on the top of the water which is incredibly soothing to the skin.
But there is a downside to Aqua Mirabilis; the first was that while ground almond shells ploughed away every single dead skin cell over your body which is great but ground almond shells don't melt. So, under your derriere would be tons of little bum biting crumbs, making an Aqua Mirabilis bath mildly uncomfortable, however just like bath ballistics which don't melt your left with salt under your bum! But that doesn't stop us buying them! Of course, you could use your Aqua Mirabilis Luxury Bath Melt in the shower, but then you'd lose out on a lovely post-exfoliation soak in nourishing oils, putting you in a bit of a catch 22 situation, do you suffer a bit of uncomfortableness? Or do you opt for the easy option?!
The fast-melting Aqua Mirabilis was only ever-so-slightly larger than Lush's other rectangular Bath Melts (like Dreamtime, for example). So, you had to be quite sparing with the exfoliating or else you'd run out before you were able to give your entire body the delicious treat of a scrub that it so longed for and deserved. Hence, Lush discontinued this Bath Melt and launched the Aqua Mirabilis Body Butter back in 2004, which is much larger and easily gives you 2-3 full body treatments in the shower.
I have also found that while their perfumes are identical, the new Aqua Mirabilis smells a bit sweeter than the original Aqua Mirabilis, as they have replaced the original primary ingredient of apricot kernel oil with almond butter. Which is not me moaning whatsoever....promise! However there is certainly nothing stopping you from using the Aqua Mirabilis body butter as an underwater massage bar!
This bar is ideal for the evenings where you just want to unwind and go to bed feeling softened and moisturized. The very addictive almost nutty scent is rather calming and would certainly be wasted first thing in the morning!!
What Lush say:-
Now we know it isn't new but it is one of our original skin treatments to exfoliate and moisturise all in one go.
If you've never tried the Aqua Mirabilis you're missing a treat. A cocoa butter softening sandalwood, calming rose, softly skin smoothing treat at that. Take it into the bath or shower and rub it all over your body. Ideal for taking on a weekend away.
At £2.79 I think this is a great little bargain. I'm always in stock of these as I personally think they are fantastic! But you have been warned that these do melt easily and don't be too heavy handed with this bar as a little goes a long way!
Summary: An all round little moisturising bargain
