Advantages: You can have a clean tongue!

Disadvantages: Can make you gag!

If you hadn’t already guessed, I am a bit of a gadget gal and if there is something new out to try then I will want to try it!

It was a couple of weeks ago I was watching TV at a mates house when an advert for a new toothbrush came on, usually I just ignore these sort of adverts, but this one caught my attention as it was for a toothbrush made by Aquafresh called Flexi Tooth & Tongue. This is a toothbrush, which cleans your tongue as well as your teeth! “Fantastic” I thought “I’m gonna have to get one of those!”

So on my next trip to Boots I remembered about the toothbrush and found it and bought it, well actually I bought two and some toothpaste as Boots currently have an offer of 3 for the price of 2 on various dental products.

*** The Packaging ***

The packaging of this toothbrush is the same as any other toothbrush, you know the usual long thin packet with a plastic cover mounted on a piece of card so you can see the toothbrush inside. There is one main difference to this packet though, and that is a small piece of orange rubbery stuff stuck to the outside of the plastic. This is actually a sample piece of rubber that looks and feels like the part of the toothbrush that cleans your tongue.

The front of the pack states the manufacturers name – Aquafresh, who are part of the GlaxoSmithKline Company. The front of the packet also claims to remove 5 times more bacteria* if you turn the packet over you will see the sentence that connects to that sentence, it is marked by another little star and reads as *than normal brushing.

Also on the back of the packet is a “lovely” sentence telling you about the millions of bacteria living on your tongue and how they cause bad breath. This then goes on to tell you about the two main features of the brush:
1) It cleans your teeth
2) It cleans your tongue!

There are also instructions on how to use the toothbrush. Now I can hear you saying who would need the instructions, but don’t worry they’re not about how to clean your teeth, they are about how to use the tongue cleaning part for maximum effect! The instructions are followed by contact details for the manufacturer and trademark information.

*** What Does The Brush Look Like? ***

The toothbrush itself looks like, well… um… let me think… I know… a toothbrush!! A slim longish piece of plastic with bristles on the end! No seriously it does, but it also features a rubber grip handle, a flexi neck (hence the name Flexi Tooth and Tongue!) The flexi neck allows you to put a certain amount of pressure onto your teeth and the brush will flex slightly backwards so the pressure on your teeth is eased off a little, as it is recommended that you don’t brush your teeth with too much pressure as this can damage your teeth by taking away the protective layer of enamel on your teeth. The toothbrush also features the cross action bristles or as Aquafresh describe them “ X-Active cleaning bristles for really thorough teeth cleaning” These bristles are bristles, which basically cross over each other so as they move backwards and forwards the remove more plaque and bacteria than just standard straight bristles would. Also the toothbrush has of course the rubber grooves of the back of the head of the toothbrush, which are used for cleaning the tongue. The toothbrush is available in a variety of colours; so far I have seen blue, orange, crème and green. I have an orange and a blue. The rubber tongue cleaner is orange on all the brushes.

*** How Do You Use It? ***

Ok, that may sound like a stupid question, but if you think about it, it isn’t! How many toothbrushes have a tongue cleaner?

First of all you need to brush your teeth as you normally would, then you simply turn the brush over and put the grooves at the back of your tongue, I felt the urge to gag and throw up the first couple of time I did this! Then you simply move it forward and rinse off all the yuk under the tap, then repeat this action all over your tongue. Nice and Simple!

*** My Experience ***

Do I like using this toothbrush? YES! The first time I used this toothbrush I was impressed with the results from the toothbrush part of it, my teeth felt all clean, sparkly and smooth. However the tongue part I wasn’t too impressed with to begin with as I will point out I was almost gagging when it came to putting the toothbrush at the back of my tongue, but now I just don’t put it as far back (no dirty comments please!) The first time I used the tongue cleaner I felt that my tongue had been left feeling rather rough and had a nasty taste on it, but nevertheless I decided to give it another go, and I was pleasantly surprised as my tongue felt lovely and clean, I don’t know if I did anything different, but whatever I did I liked the results so I have continued to use it.

I can quite confidently say that using this toothbrush twice a day has much improved the condition of my teeth and although I didn’t really suffer with bad breath before I used this toothbrush, my mouth does appear to feel a lot fresher. So overall I would recommend using this toothbrush as it always leaves a nice clean, sparkly, fresh feeling in my mouth! However I am only giving it 4 stars, as I didn’t enjoy the gagging sensation I received the first time I used it!

Summary: Clean teeth and clean tongue... what more could you want?!?

Sounds like the toothbrush part is good - the tongue cleaner bit probably wouldn't swing it for me buying it as I have brushed my tongue when I do my teether for years anyway!
