Advantages: Good price,
Disadvantages: Makes promises it can't live up to
OK so without boring you with all the history about Aquafresh toothpaste, all I will say is that the product has been manufactured since 1973 and is one of the premier toothpaste brands in the country alongside Colgate. Infamous for it's slogan 'Three in one protection' and the red, blue and white lines that reinforce this, Aquafresh has extended its range to include a toothpaste for children and also offerings for whiter teeth and for those with sensitive teeth.
I'm going to be reviewing the classic 'Fresh & Minty' Aquafresh which I picked up for 1.00 in Boots recently. At only 100ml it's not a bad price and Aquafresh do have larger tubes and other such packaging for their toothpastes at more expensive prices.
Concealed in a colourful box sporting the trademark, red, blue and white, the box almost shines as if to say that your teeth will enjoy the same luxury when you use this product. The packaging contains the standard information like ingredients all laid out neatly and are clear to read and also hits you with the 'promise' from the toothpaste. Stating that it will fight plaque to leave healthy, gums, will strengthen enamel leaving you with stronger teeth and will also freshen your breath.
The toothpaste itself is just as deciphered on the outside box and comes out as essentially white with a red and blue line running through it. The weakness I found with Aquafresh is that the first few times you clean your teeth, it does an excellent job with the minty taste hitting your mouth the moment you insert your toothbrush. The flavour isn't too strong which genuinely gave me a relaxing session of teeth cleaning.
However, once the product had been open a few days the taste started to falter and Aquafresh's promises were nothing but echoes on the distant breeze. The toothpaste did little to help my breath even after a good brushing at times appearing to make it even worse and as someone who doesn't really suffer from bad breath, I then had to resort to mouthwash to curb this onslaught.
Also despite cleaning my teeth for a good five minutes - I noticed that parts were still yellow even after a thorough cleaning, something that didn't happen with other toothpaste brands I've used.
The taste itself had vanished before the toothpaste had even touched my teeth leaving me with a very sickly and unpleasant teeth cleaning session. I thought I had stored it wrong or done something but apparently other people have had similar disappointing encounters with Aquafresh.
Whilst the price may have been very good at the time, I shan't be parting with any amount of money on this brand again in the future.
Summary: The classic Aquafresh brand stuck to the back of the pile
