Advantages: Nice flavour, does what is says on the packet
Disadvantages: All the colours mix together and doesnt have any whitening properties
What can I say! I have been a consumer of Aquafresh Fresh and Minty for as long as I have had teeth to brush! Its colourful stripes make it ideal for the first 'proper' toothpaste kid's use as its fun colours and not-so-intrusive taste aren't to offensive to young mouths or adult taste buds.
The price of this product, despite its commercial (and terribly annoying) adverts, is very reasonable. I have never found it to be more than a pound in any of the major supermarkets and it is often on special offer.
Its packaging is attractive and eye-catching with 'fresh' colours that make you feel cleaner just by looking at them! It, of course, comes in a cardboard box initially that has the company logo of the three toothpaste stripes. Another advantage of this packaging is the large and very recognisable font used for the word 'Aquafresh'. This ensures that the product is easy to spot on the shelf so it doesn't sink away into the background with all the others. Although this is a minor point, it's nice to know that one doesn't have to hunt around for half an hour before discovering the household's favourite brand.
The tube itself has a flip top lid. The only disadvantage of this being that it gets easily clogged up after a few uses and you have to dig around with the end of a toothbrush to get rid of all the dried up bits before you can use it. However it is more convenient than a screw top lid as it's virtually impossible to loose and doesn't give the predicament of someone doing it up to tightly so others in the house can't open it!
The manufacturer promises that the red stripe fights plaque, the white stripe fights tooth decay while the blue stripe is used to freshen your breath. However in my experience, these stripes just merge together to form an off-pink kind of goo. This is fine as it doesn't affect the taste or performance, it just doesn't look as nice as it is promised on the box, but what ever is!
When you squeeze the paste out of the tube onto the brush, you can easily get it into a workable shape and it doesn't go everywhere like other toothpastes. It also cuts off quickly after you have stopped squeezing which is nice because it means you can almost accurately measure how much or how little you really want on there.
Using the toothpaste can also be a pleasurable experience. As I have said before, the toothpaste does not carry a harsh and unpleasant taste. Instead of tasting antibacterial and clinical, this toothpaste has a light, minty taste, which is not over powering and does not feel like your mouth is being burnt! It creates a nice amount of foam too! Which is something I always like as it makes my mouth feel cleaner and more... well minty. It is also nice because it almost acts as a lubricant so you do not feel dry and again too clinical after you have done them, just clean and ready to leave the house!
On a cleanliness note, they do get rid of that nasty furry feeling you get first thing in the morning and last thing at night. And for those with retainer braces, it's perfect as it doesn't make your retainer go white and plastered just so long as you wash it off properly. It also means that retainers stay see through if used every day at least once a day. Just don't use too much!
The only thing that I would say this product lacks is something to make your teeth brighter and whiter, although I am sure that Aquafresh does have a similar product that does just that. I do not necessarily miss this feature; it would just be nice as an added bonus if teeth looked almost newer after using.
All in all this is a great product. As I have said I have been using it for a long time. I have tried other toothpastes; however I have found them to be too clinical and harsh for my sensitive mouth. So I have always ended up coming back to Aquafresh products, never found them to be a disappointment.
Summary: Always have used, probably always will!
