Advantages: smells lovely, very cheap
Disadvantages: not very natural, only from Asda
For some lucky people, having a shower can be a rather fruity experience. After all, dripping wet hair and sodden bodies can be extremely erotic. Warm gushing water and nakedness is a pleasant combination. Indeed, a shared shower must surely be one of the most intimate experiences you can have. But here, I am planning on describing my *second* favourite type of shower – the one I have using the Asda Get Fruity shower gel and sadly, alone. This is also a fruity experience, but in a different way! I was previously a huge fan of Original Source. Well, I still am, but my lack of funds was preventing their products from being a regular purchase. I love the range of flavours (for want of a better word!) that Original Source has, especially their citrus ones. I bought other brands, but couldn’t find anything else as good, until I tried Asda’s own range of Get Fruity shower gel. The first one we bought was a purple colour, which was the raspberry variety. As purple is my favourite colour and raspberry is one of my favourite smells, this one sounded ideal and I was very impressed with it – especially as it only cost 98p for a 250ml bottle that lasted several weeks – even in a household of six! Recently, hubby brought home a different variety from his weekly trip to Asda – a bright orange one called Peach and Mango. I have been using this ever since and we have used up about a third of the bottle in three weeks. It is easy to store. The bottle is see-through plastic, so you can see exactly how much is left. There is a black hook lid to hold it up next to your shower and a non-drip seal at the top. The other varieties besides the two we have tried are lime and kiwi (bright green) and in the Get Minty range a tea tree and mint shower gel. As well as attracting Original Source fans who would prefer a cheaper (admittedly less natural) option, the design of these gels is also appealing to
teenagers as it is bright, colourful, modern and trendy. There is a picture of a big pair of lips on the front, with the slogan ‘Give your body a big fruity kiss!’ (Come on guys, a nice orderly queue please!!) Original Source products pride themselves on their natural ingredients and lack of chemicals and in this respect, Asda’s Get Fruity range can hardly compare. From its long list of chemical sounding ingredients, the only one I could recognise was good old aqua (water) although apparently Mangifera indica means there’s mango in it and Prunus persica is peach. They do state that it contains fruit extracts and moisturisers. So it’s cheap, lasts well and is well packaged, but how does it do its job? Again, it puts in an impressive performance here. You only need a small amount in your hands or on a body puff and it is easy to lather. I find it generates a good amount of bubbles and washes well. The Peach and Mango smells gorgeous, it is just the right strength and reminds me of fresh fruit and boiled sweets. It fills the bathroom with a lovely fragrance, but one that does not outstay its welcome. It stays on the skin after washing, but isn’t an overpowering smell. After showering, my skin feels lovely and smooth, very soft and silky. I often have dry, sensitive skin, but I don’t usually need to add body lotion or moisturiser after using this product. The only negative point I have to make about this shower gel is that, being an Asda product, it is only available in Asda stores. This isn’t a problem for us, but if your local supermarket isn’t an Asda, you would have to make a special journey to buy it or order it online. OVERALL ASSESSMENT Packaging = 8 out of 10 Lather = 8 out of 10 Skin softness = 9 out of 10 Smell = 10 out of 10 Overall = 35 out of 40 Varieties = raspberry, tea tree and mint, peach and mango, lime and k
iwi Price = 98p for 250ml Availability = only in Asda So, it looks like I’ll be sticking with my Get Fruity shower gel for the foreseeable future. Well, unless I get any offers from naked men who fancy sharing. If that happens, I don’t think I’ll be needing any shower gel at all, but could probably manage to get fruity enough without ;-)
