Advantages: A good moisturiser

Disadvantages: Smells rank

I usually use E45 Body Lotion but I am always in the mood for a bargain, so when I was browsing the Avon online shop recently and saw this Avon Care Rich Moisture Body Lotion on special offer I couldn't resist. It normally costs £4.50 for 400 ml but it was reduced to just 99 pence, which seemed like excellent value to me, especially seeing as 500 ml of E45 costs me around £5. I decided to give it a go and see if it could compare.

The body lotion comes in a large, light blue plastic bottle with the Avon Care logo on the front in dark blue, and a green leaf which I think is supposed to symbolise the fact that the lotion has aloe vera added to it. The bottle has a blue plastic flip up top which reveals a small hole underneath through which the lotion is dispensed. This is easy enough to open but I don't find it as quick and convenient as the pump on the top of the E45 bottle.

The lotion is white and has a nice consistency, not too thick to rub in but not too runny or thin so as to be ineffective. It smooths onto the skin easily and feels cool and refreshing. The moisture from it lasts for a reasonable amount of time and it is not too sticky or greasy. It also helps my skin when it's itchy or feeling sensitive, and is nearly equal to E45 in this regard which is impressive.

However the problem with the lotion is the smell. Although at first it doesn't seem like a strong smell, it soon started to get to me. It smells like aftersun lotion which has gone off and is way out of date. The smell makes me retch and gag at the back of my throat, it is so horrible. I am trying to use up the rest of the lotion but when I do so I have to be careful not to breathe it in!

I would not recommend this but if you do want to try it then you can buy it from the Avon website or from your local representative. It is currently half price and costs £2.25.

Summary: Not for me
