Advantages: softens, moisturises, smooths skin, long lasting fragrance
Disadvantages: none apart from the fact that some people may dislike the scent
Far Away is a fragrance which was released exclusively by Avon well over ten years or so ago; as well as the Far Away Eau De Parfum fragrance you can also purchase Far Away bath and body products to compliment and layer the scent of the perfume. People who have tried Far Away before will know that it is quite a strong smelling fragrance which has really excellent staying power; however there are some people whom may find that the scent of the perfume doesn't last that long on their skin due to the fact that all of out skin types are different. It is usually people whom have quite dry or oily skin types whom will find that the scent of a perfume, body lotion etc doesn't linger on their skin for a long length of time. If you have this problem with the staying power of perfumes then you would really benefit from using the complimentary bath and body products as these act as a layer for the perfume to adhere to therefore increasing the longevity of the scent on your skin.
Avon Far Away Shower Gel is available from Avon online or by ordering it from an Avon catalogue which you can get from your Avon representative if you have one in your area. There are different sized bottles of the shower gel available to purchase and as well as different sized bottles there are also some different packaging styles available; however the scent and appearance of the shower gel remains the same. Usually the smaller 150ml Far Away Shower gel is supplied in a tall off white coloured plastic tube which has a gold coloured screw on off lid. Where as the larger 200ml shower gel is supplied in a tall curvy off white coloured bottle which has a flip style gold lid which you just flip upwards to open the shower gel and flip back down again to close it so as the shower gel doesn't leak everywhere.
Regardless of which size of the Far Away Shower Gel you decide to choose the labelling and colouring on it remains exactly the same so as there is no confusion to the customer. Basically on the front of the shower gel tube/bottle you will notice that the label is quite plain and simple in design yet it is quite sophisticated and elegant in appearance. The label basically states that the product is in-fact an Avon product and that it is Far Away Moisturising Bath and Shower Gel, all of the writing on the label is printed in a gold metallic looking ink which ties in with the gold colouring on the lids very well. There is also a small purple tassel design printed near the top of the bottle/tube as well which is like the Far Away Fragrance trade mark as the perfume has the same purple coloured tassel round the neck of the bottle. If there is one fault with the actual packaging for the shower gel it is the fact that it isn't supplied in clear or see through containers. As I have stated in loads of my reviews before I prefer to purchase beauty/cleaning products etc in clear or see through packaging as I can easily see how much of the product is remaining inside the bottle at a glance; as well as being able to monitor how much of the product I am using at any one given time.
Sometimes with fragranced bath and beauty products I am actually quite disappointed by them because some of them are really thin and watery in consistency and others don't really smell nice, leave your skin fragranced or feeling any softer. But with Far Away moisturising shower gel I am really pleased with every aspect of it and cannot pick out any faults whatsoever, which is probably one of the main reasons I have continued to purchase this product on a regular basis for the last 4 years or so. The shower gel inside the tube/bottle is of a medium thick consistency, I would say that the consistency of the shower gel is fairly similar to that of Fairy Liquid although maybe just a little thinner. The shower gel has a gel like appearance and is fairly clear in colour although you do notice a slight pearlescent appearance shining through it when it reflects the light. With some shower gels you don't actually smell the fragrance from them as soon as you dispense them from the actual packaging onto your hand/sponge, you normally just smell the aroma from them when you start to work them into your skin and produce a lather. But with this actual shower gel the aroma hits you as soon as you start to dispense it from the packaging.
The medium thick consistency of the shower gel means that you don't actually have to use that much of it in order to get bathed with. I normally dispense the shower gel onto a bath puff and find that one blob the size of a ten pence piece is a more than adequate amount to get washed with; however if you aren't going to use a bath puff or a sponge and you prefer to use the shower gel on your hand you will find that you will use double if not treble the amount which in my opinion is just a waste of a perfectly good shower gel. Another downside to using the shower gel on your hand as opposed to a sponge or similar is the fact that you don't get a particularly good lather, where as with a sponge or bath puff the shower gel creates an extremely thick, creamy and bubbly lather almost instantly on your skin. The thick and creamy lather from the shower gel feels nice and soft on your skin as you are using it, it doesn't feel harsh nor does it make your skin feel itchy or irritated; instead it feels as if the shower gel is moisturising and caring for your skin. Also I find that the shower gel rinses off your skin really easily and effortlessly despite the sheer thickness and creaminess of it and it doesn't leave a sticky or tacky residue on your skin or in and around the bath/shower.
After I got fully washed and dried I noticed that my skin felt a lot smoother and softer than it did before I used the shower gel, and it was also highly fragranced; which is due to the fact that the shower gel does have a strong fragrance. Even although the fragrance of the shower gel is strong, it isn't a strong heady scent which would give you a sore head, it has more of a fresh sweet strong aroma. The fragrance from the shower gel really does linger on my skin for quite sometime, usually shower gels only fragrance my skin for approximately 4 hours or so before they fade away; but with Far Away Shower Gel the fragrance lingered on my skin for almost eight hours before it could no longer be smelt on my skin. The fragrance from the shower gel also lingers in the bathroom as well for a short time, the fragrance lingers in the air for up to an hour and a half before it gradually starts to fade away.
The scent which the shower gel leaves on my skin is absolutely gorgeous, and it smells almost identical to that of the complimentary perfume although the shower gel has more of a sweeter and slightly more muskier aroma than what the fragranced perfume does. The Far Away Shower Gel smalls mainly of sweet vanilla and sweet musk which is complimented my the warm and rich aroma of Amber as well as a slight fruity undertone of orange flower which seems to add a little fruitiness and depth to the fragrance of the shower gel. I think that this shower gel combined with the use of the body lotion and the perfume creates a wonderful rich long lasting and sweet aroma. The perfume itself has relatively great staying power but if you combine it with the other Far Away products in the range then the scent lasts on your skin for well over 15 hours or so; therefore you don't need to use as much perfume.
Far Away is described as having the following fragrance notes ~
Top Notes of Jasmine, Freesia and Osmanthus Flower
Middle Notes of Orange Flower, Peach and Sandal Wood
Base Notes of Vanilla, Musk and Amber
Far Away Shower Gel as well as the perfume and the other Far Away fragranced body products can only be purchased from Avon as this is an Avon fragrance. However you might be able to purchase some of the Far Away perfumes and body products from EBay at a discounted price so maybe that's worth a try as it will save you a little money. Avon very regularly have this scent and its matching bath and body products on special offer so you will be able to get it a lot cheaper from time to time; so it's a good idea to keep checking the Avon catalogue and website to take advantage of the special offers as and when they appear.
A 200ml bottle of the shower gel should last you approximately 8 weeks or so if you are using it on a daily basis, however if you are only going to use it every now and again then it will last you a longer length of time. When you have opened and started using a bottle of the shower gel you have up to 12 months to finish it before it needs throwing out, so it has quite a good shelf life for those who are only going to use it every so often.
The prices for Far Away Shower Gel and complimentary fragranced products in the range are as follows and have been quoted from the Avon website ~
50ml Far Away Eau De Parfum ~ £10 (may be cheaper if they have it on special offer)
75ml Far Away Body Spray ~ £3
40g Far Away Shimmering Body Powder ~ £3
200ml Far Away Bath and Shower Gel ~ £3
I think that the Avon Far Away Shower Gel is a fantastic product as it not only highly fragrances your skin but it also moisturises and he best thing about the shower gel is the fact that it is really cheaply priced and costs around £3 maximum (cheaper if it is on special offer). This is a gorgeous fragranced shower gel which I'm sure that most people will like. If you like fragrances such as Jean Paul Gaultier Classique or Rare Gold then I'm sure you will love this scent as well as they are all fairly similar.
