Advantages: Smells divine
Disadvantages: Poor lather, smell doesn't last
My first experience of Far Away was a couple of years ago when a friend gave me a gift set for Christmas. The set included a 15ml spray perfume as well as the coordinating shower gel and skin softener. The same set is actually available in the current Avon catalogue for £8 and is comes in a lovely box, ready for giving as a gift if you can ebar to part with it.
Perfumes are quite a difficult gift to give since everyone has their own personal tastes but I was thrilled when I sampled Far Away as I probably wouldn't have purchased it myself without having sampled it first. Avon advertises Far Away as an oriental floral scent. This is true but perhaps gives the wrong impression. Oriental scents in my experience tend to be heavy and musty and aren't to my taste. Fragrances such as Opium which are classic opium scents are far to strong for my liking. Far Away is different in that it is a far milder and lighter in comparison to other Oriental perfumes. It's floral to but still remains sweet and light. The scent is richer than others I tend to use but I still love the smell and surprisingly, despite my vast collection of expensive perfumes, Far Away is perhaps the one that most frequently gets commented on by others.
If you particularly like a scent, a good way to prolong and intensify the aroma is to combine the perfume with a shower gel and moisturizer that uses the same fragrance. I was therefore a little surprised that, despite my love of the Far Away fragrance, the 50ml shower gel I received so long ago is still sat in my bathroom cabinet. As I unscrewed the lid to sniff the shower gel, I was pleasantly surprised by the rich and familiar aroma of Far Away. The shower gel almost perfectly mimics the scent of the perfume. Unfortunately, this is where the similarities end.
Using the shower gel is no different to any other shower gel. I quickly recalled though perhaps the main reason why I didn't finish this small bottle. The lather is minimal despite using a generous amount of the gel and I like to shower with a rich lather to know I'm doing a good job of cleaning myself. The smell was still strong at this stage though and the steamy shower was filled with one of my favourite fragrances. Despite this, having dried and dressed myself, the aroma appears to have quickly evaporated. There's perhaps a very slight fragrance left of my skin but it's barely noticeable.
The shower gel can also be purchased in a full size 200ml bottle which is far more attractive than my mini. The regular price is £3.50 although it is on offer in the current Avon catalogue for £1.75. For me though, even the offer price is too expensive since it struggles to lather and doesn't leave a lasting scent. I'd rather stick to my preferred choice of shower gel and indulge my senses with the real thing in the form of the Far Away eau de parfum.
