Advantages: It works well, not expensive
Disadvantages: I would prefer a sweeter smell
When my mom died last year she had a lot of toiletries in her cupboard and I ended up with most of them, as they were the same sort of things that I usually used.
One item that I have recently started to use is Avon Footworks Moisture Cream. Being a diabetic I have to make sure that I take extra care of my feet as we can suffer from neuropathy, which is basically a loss of sensation in the feet. I regularly use cream on my feet to keep them soft and whilst I am applying the cream I can check for any problems.
I have been using ordinary moisturising cream and even hand cream on occasions and have found both of these to be quite adequate for the job. When I finished my tube of moisturising cream a couple of weeks ago I went to the cupboard and noticed that I had the tube of Avon cream that mom had left.
I decided to try the special foot cream assuming that it would be pretty much the same as any other moisturiser but I was wrong.
The product
As I said the one I have is called Avon Footworks Moisture Cream but, after looking at the Avon website at www.avonshop.co.uk , I notice that it is now called Avon Footworks Deep Moisturising Cream. It costs £3.50 for a tube containing 75ml of the cream, but there are often offers on Avon products so it is always worth stocking up on your favourites when the offers are on.
The packaging
There isn't much to say about this - it is a white tube with a blue screw cap. It just has the name of the product on the front and a sentence about the product on the back which is written in 6 different languages and is so small that I had to wear my glasses and use a magnifying glass to read it!
What it does say though is that the cream contains cocoa butter to help soften any hard skin and peppermint oil for its refreshing properties. It also gives an element of deodorising protection.
The cream
The first thing that I noticed about the cream was the fragrance and it took me ages to think what it reminded me of! Then it came to me - it smelled just like the mixed spices that I put in the mincemeat that I make at Christmas. I have to say that I would prefer a more perfumed scent but having said that the smell doesn't linger so it doesn't really matter either way.
The cream itself is much stiffer in texture than hand cream or moisturising cream and it is absorbed into my skin much faster because of this. I used to spend ages rubbing in moisturising cream but this one disappears into my skin really quickly with no trace of greasiness.
I found that I didn't need to use very much of the cream to get the beneficial effects so the tube lasts a long time - another advantage especially in these cash strapped times!
The effects
I use this cream every night before I go to bed and occasionally in the morning as well and my feet feel soft, smooth and comfortable and, since I do a lot of walking, this is great. I don't suffer with much hard skin but I do have small cracks in the skin on my heels and I have noticed a marked improvement since using this cream. My heels are now quite smooth!
I haven't noticed whether the deodorising effect makes any difference as, luckily, I don't suffer from smelly feet anyway so I can't comment on this particular property of the cream.
In conclusion
I didn't expect this cream to be any different from any other moisturising cream; I though the 'special' foot cream idea was just a gimmick. I admit it - I was wrong. This cream is markedly better for my feet than ordinary moisturiser and I think I shall be treating myself to some more when this is finished.
Summary: I will be buying this again
